image Overall I had a pretty negative experience with this company. I wouldn't hire them again or recommend them. The work they did was mostly fine, but I felt they conducted themselves very unprofessionally and added extra stress to someone that is dealing with a catastrophic event in their home.
I contacted the associated Keyteams Company after a pipe burst in my home. They were one of the only companies willing to come that day, because I'm sure there were many pipes that burst because of the cold.
The person who answered the phone was pretty condescending, but I bit my tongue because I needed help. Keyteam sent some staff to my home and decided they needed to do asbestos testing. They eventually began most of the work a few days later after the tests came back negative.
After they finished, they left equipment in my home but didn't really communicate when they would be back to get all of it. I called them, and they decided to get it after I brought the issue up.
They also subcontracted a furniture restoration company, and that wasn't clear to me for quite some time. Figuring that out was very confusing.
Once I received the invoice, I forwarded it to my insurance company. The insurance company reached out to Keyteams for clarification on some billing items, which created some tension. However, the way Keyteam responded to my insurance company was overly antagonistic, sardonic, and served no good purpose.
I understand there's a conflict between the insurance company and the contractors who are each trying to maximize their profits, but they had no regard for the client in the middle.
In short, Keyteam stated their contract was with me and not the insurance company, which is true. It was my fault for selecting them.
They refused to clarifying their billing practices, and this created hesitation with my insurance company.
Eventually Keyteams asked me if there was any update. I told them I hadn't heard back, but I suspected the insurance would issue a partial payment to me.
At this point there was no indication that I wasn't going to pay their invoice on time, and if there was a gap in coverage I was fully prepared to pay the difference, as my insurance company warned me could be the case.
The exact email said,
"If I can't get them to cover everything, just let me know what you've received and we'll go from there."
Many days before the invoice was due, Keyteam started the process of putting a lien on my home.
It was an unnecessary step, and for a company that kept emphasized their contract was with me, they never reached out to ask if I was going to miss their 30 day deadline.
Again, I would avoid this company.
