Unfortunately, like so many others' reviews both here and Yelp, I too am having issues with this place. I've been patient with the really long wait times, the dirty bathroom and inefficiencies of both staff and drs at times but now I have to add my complaint to the number of others. Two significant mistakes on their part cost me a month's worth of meds and a whole new set of SI joint injections that I was supposed to be done with and ready for a Fusion. In all the years I've had injections, none have ever been so painful as the ones I get at this clinic and no one has ever been able to explain why. It's literally a traumatic experience for me every time now. Dr. Smith was extremely rude when he cut off my meds without offering anything for potential withdrawals. They have been so disorganized for so long, they got my urine tests mixed up so it looked like I had 3 positives in a row but i didn't. Dr. Smith has lost some great staff in the past year and is now operating with a bare bones skeleton crew. I used to be happy with them and overlook some of the issues but not anymore!

After years of putting up with extremely long wait times, a dirty bathroom (that often has no TP), confusion and misinformation between Drs/NP's and others regarding my treatment plan, Drs, NP and RNs leaving and the most recent issue with Dr. Smith being extremely rude and cutting off my meds without offering any potential withdrawal support has left me completely angry and disgusted. Twice now, they've made significant mistakes that have affected the receipt of my medication as well as my treatment plan and the need for a set of "diagnostic" injections all over again. These injections are some of the most painful I've ever had and I dread them terribly each time. Dr. Smith was/is supposed to do an SI Fusion and yet after all these years, I can't say I particularly trust him doing it. At this point, I have been to numerous other pain mgmnt drs over many years and don't know where else to go. I was pretty happy with this place and the treatment I was receiving for quite awhile, but now I'm just frustrated!

I would avoid this center at all costs if you can. I was scheduled for an appointment at 1:30 pm. At 3 pm I had yet to see a doctor, and had to leave due to another commitment. The nurse/staff didn't seem phased, and offered no help. Now I am without my medications and no follow up appointment. The past three appointments I've had here have had to be rescheduled within days of the appointment date because "there is no provider available". Every appointment I've had has been with a different doctor-it appears they have a high turn over rate. I've been contacting the front desk for 5 months to be approved for a test I need. They don't return voicemails, and I am still waiting after they have submitted the paperwork wrong multiple times. This is only the second review I have ever written, but their customer service and respect of patient's time is appalling.

I had been a patient at this pain management for over 10 years until recently. Dr. Smith's medical license was placed on seven years probation for committing acts of gross negligence, repeated negligent acts, failed to maintain adequate and accurate medical records, and unprofessional conduct in the care and treatment of multiple patients. Also, incompetence in the care and treatment of a patient; and excessively prescribed controlled substances. Effective 10/15/2020, Dr. Smith's license was revoked, stayed, placed on seven years probation until the anticipated end date of 11/14/2027.Unfortunately, Dr. Smith cares about the almighty dollar $$. I can't tell you how many times I heard about his yacht, Rolls Royce and all of his wonderful vacations. He owns the Medical Marijuana Dispensary in his Mission Valley location. He also owns Alcala Labs where he has people's urine tested. He owns the entire building at his Mission Valley location. For many years he charged me $25.00 to have a prior authorization for my opioid pain medication. My insurance company finally told me that I wasn't to be charged for a prior authorization. My attorney had my medical records subpoenaed and I was blown away when I saw records that obviously did not pertain to me. My records were completely in disarray!The front office staff and nurses are rude and dismissive. In fact, I have never seen such a revolving door of various staff hired and fired. I suggest that each and every person who goes to this establishment for care, first read the case for Dr. Smith's medical license # G 66777. Patients have loss their lives and nearly every pain management doctor in San Diego County is cognizant of Dr. Smith and the cases against him. Do not blindly continue care without making sure you are aware of Dr. Smith's medical license restrictions, and the patients who lost their lives. Lastly, Patient Beware!
