Im writing this review on behalf of my wife and myself based on our experience with one ultrasound (and almost a second one).
So the first time we went, we had no idea what to expect because this is our first child. This first appointment was when my wife was 20 weeks pregnant. They took my wife to the back without allowing me to come with her but said they will call me back shortly. I thought that was strange but said okay. Then, I proceeded to wait for over 40 minutes, yes 40, until they brought me back. They had already done everything and I was only able to be there for the vanity of taking some photos of the monitor and my wife. It wasnt quite the experience I imagined. We immediately got the photos I took on my phone printed at Walgreenswe were very excited. Overall, not a completely horrible experience other than the fact that 40+ minutes is certainly a long time. It made me question the skill and experience of the techsnot to mention, the amount of radiation exposure was certainly a concern. I will note that as soon as we walked out of there, my wife and I had extreme headaches. I had only been exposed to radiation in that room for about 5 minutes, but I suspect their office must be having leaks all around. I feel especially bad for my wife for all of that direct exposure. I really question ultrasounds as it is. Sure, they have their merit to sometimes detect potential issues, but theres more than enough anecdotal evidence that ultrasounds are not accurate and they put people in a frenzy with wrong info. Besides, my parents are from the generation that ultrasounds werent used and werent routine. I digress.
So now, we just came from our second appointment to get verification that my wifes placenta had fully moved out of the way (according to the last one, it was just barely, and I mean barely low). Was that due to the ability of the tech? I dont know, but we were willing to go for a second one. So here we are trying to make it clear that we were only seeking confirmation of the placenta location, nothing else. They also would not let me back there. This time, I asked why not and they said its not their protocol. And then I asked again why not? Then they told me that theyve had issues with husbands in the past. I cant even imagine what that means, but my wife was feeling vulnerable and wanted me nearby to be her advocate. They were trying to push other exams and things on her that she had to decline and sign that she didnt want them. After it was all said and done, they just said that they wouldnt be able to do a quick ultrasound for placenta placement. Again, its their protocol to do all the other measurements and to check if the babys heart is beating. Hes kicking strong and we can hear with a sonogram and can track his heart rate. We should be able to opt out of that to limit our radiation exposure. Because its protocol should not be the answer to everything. Why is that your protocol? Because its our protocol. Thats circular reasoning and not helpful.
After all that, they kindly gave us a refund and some referrals to other locations. I dont mean for this review to disparage anyone, I just hope it helps you parents know what to expect (just based on our experience).
