Just wanted to let the lurkers know they do not offer childcare while you work out. I saw an old review here that said they do but I guess its outdated. Bummer!

Unfriendly front desk staff. Canceled my membership after one year. Was never spoken to, and rarely acknowledged when I entered the building to check in. No one cared to ask why I was canceling either.

My wife is disabled and has rheumatoid arthritis and her Rheumatologist suggested she use a pool to help with mobility. We filled out application for some help with cost, attached all necessary documentation, MD letter, SSDI documents and an ID. We called & a very rude unhelpful woman answered the phone and said they make these decisions once a month. She actually made us feel guilty for asking for help. We left a voicemail too on the director's voicemail so we could at least verify they received all the necessary documents.. Well it's been 1.5 months and nothing, nada, no call, no email, ZIP. We called yesterday and got the same unhelpful rude woman. After pressing her to speak with someone, got the director's VM and left message again. And again nothing. They are supposed to be a helpful organization. This place is anything but that.
Update, a week later and still no attempt by this organization to reach out. I guess we will see if the Andover, MA location will be willing to at least return a telephone call because this location has not. It's pretty upsetting because we are just trying to do what the MD is recommending. Update 6/28/2023 well they finally confirmed they got all my documents, that was 3 weeks ago also and then again they didn't follow up, no letter, no call no nothing again. So we went to No. Andover YMCA which is really nice, actually much nicer and in 2.5 weeks we were approved. So no thanks to Newburyport . Really if you need any monetary help to be able to use local service don't bother with this location. They were rude on the phone and obviously don't care what kind of service they provide. Update. 8/4/23 Got financial assistance from the YMCA in No. Andover in less than 2 weeks. They have 4 pools too. Much better service and friendly kind folks. Really it's worth the extra time to get there because there is no comparison in terms of facilities they have, really much better than here.
