The room was ok. The staff was so rude that I'll never go back.
Our GPS dropped us off at the wrong building, so I called in to get directions to the reception area. The woman that answered was so incredibly condescending and rude when I asked for help. I was so stunned that she was talking to me the way she was that I could barely pay attention to the directions she was giving me. My 9 year old daughter was in the car and asked me why she was talking to me like that, even she was shocked. We went in, she was nice enough while we were face to face. She handed me a map, but didn't tell me there was no parking at the unit and we would have to walk there. No big deal, I just don't know what I don't know. So we got in the car and drove around to find no parking. I called in again, she was obviously annoyed that I was calling and asked me "what?! Do you need me to come and escort you?!!" No. I just didn't know where the parking was for our unit.
The unit is older. The room was clean enough, the carpets are stained and gross. Amenities like the towel warmers are outdated and don't work, the blinds are missing slats in the bathrooms and bedrooms. The mattresses are old and feel that way. We went out for dinner, their restaurant looked like it was closed and I really didn't want to spend any more time there or call to ask if it was open.
My daughter and I frequent the area before her hospital visits/stays. We really enjoy exploring the area and up until now, every stay we've had in the area has been excellent. We've been traveling to the area for 7 years and it was our first and very last time staying here. It's unfortunate because they're so close to the children's hospital.
Rooms: The carpets are stained and worn, didn't feel very clean but looked vacuumed.

Very charming but for the money, there needs to be changes done. The mattress was not comfortable, nor were the pillows. The shade in the bathroom was beautiful but damaged. The bed skirt was stained. No room service and the complimentary breakfast consisted of 1/2 cup of yogurt, a condiment size container of fruit and a muffin that was smaller than a munchkin donut.

I can only review the townhouse accommodations. Very cozy townhouse like efficiency rooms with two floors one for eating and sitting and the other for sleeping bathroom. We had to stay in a townhouse because we needed two adjoining bedrooms. This is a difficult place to walk around if you get the townhouse. Dont bring a heavy bag. You have to leave the main building and cross a road to get to the line of townhouses. Then negotiate staircases. They have a baggage valet but we checked in very late. Though Im not sure why I would use a valet to carry five pieces of luggage across a street and up and down several staircases when we could do it ourselves. Their main building has accommodations as well which would not require leaving the building or climbing stairs. We had an enjoyable stay and very nice rooms with beautiful big bathrooms. They have a lovely place to have dinner Krazy Kats Otherwise for food you have to leave. The inn gives you a list of nearby places to go to for breakfast or lunch.

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at the Inn at Montchanin! From the moment we arrived, we were greeted by polite and efficient check-in staff who made us feel welcome. The accommodations were not only clean and comfortable but also incredibly attractive, adding to the charm of our experience.
The grounds of the inn are simply stunning, providing a beautiful backdrop for relaxation. While the area may not be very walkable due to the surrounding country roads, we found the remote location to be incredibly peaceful and private, which only added to the allure of our getaway.
One of the highlights was being able to dine outside amidst the picturesque scenery, thanks to the numerous tables and chairs scattered throughout the grounds. And being just a short drive away from some breathtaking hikes along the Brandywine River was the cherry on top of an already perfect stay.
Overall, our spontaneous getaway was everything we hoped for and more, and we would certainly return to the Inn at Montchanin in a heartbeat. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a relaxing and rejuvenating escape!
