image We were disappointed in the care The Cottages on Weselyn provided our Mom. We thought after interviewing them and Mom being assessed and accepted by them, that it was the right place for Mom. But it turned out they are not truly prepared to assist memory care. Their website claims “constantly monitor residents wellbeing”. But Mom was ignored. I spoke with Joy regarding Mom being introduced to fellow residents and activities. She replied “we can do that”. Really? Shouldn’t that be a priority when a new resident moves in? Especially when you are aware and accepted a resident with memory care issues. In the short time Mom was there, other incidents told us Mom wasn’t getting the assistance she needed. And they had the audacity to say we should hire sitters to monitor Mom. So in reality they only provide basic assisted living not true memory care as they advertise.

image This place is nice in the beginning.... it’s an assisted living community that needs to care and help the elderly community. This was not the place for us and we could not be happier at our new assisted living place.

image I have visited the Cottages many times over the past many years. I was very pleasantly surprised by the hospitable atmosphere and courteousness of the people who worked there. And wow, I love the food - always good, always...

image My 95 year old mother loves living at the Cottages. She was in an independent cottage for 13 years and really enjoyed it. She participates in most all activities and has made many friends. My brothers and I are so relieved that she is in such a loving and safe place. The staff is so kind to her and all residents and eager to help them.

image Based on my family’s experience, I can’t recommend the Cottages on Wesleyan to anyone. If your loved one has dementia please read this review. This facility, their management, and staff are not prepared to care for those with Dementia. Most of my concern is with the director, Joy Johnson, and not with the staff that provides care for the residents. I can say nothing positive about Joy, and little positive about her administrative staff. Because of her lousy leadership, the primary problem is with the night staff who are not properly trained, not informed about the needs of the residents, and apparently not compensated sufficiently, nor supervised sufficiently to do the job required for dementia care.
The Cottages are new and, on the surface, appear very nice. We found it to be very pretty, and a very convenient place to visit. We told the administration that we really liked the place but that we were concerned that they were not equipped for the care that our Mom needed. We described the care that was required, and the answer Joy supplied was always “no problem, we deal with that every day, or no problem, we have many residents that need that level of care”. To make certain, my sister who was our Mom’s care giver for the previous 3 years, brought my Mom to the Cottages for a required assessment. When she arrived, Joy told us that she merely needed to meet our Mom and have a chat. Based on this, we decided to move our Mom to the Cottages on December 1. This required that we move Mom, her furniture, and all her belongings from Flowery Branch to Macon. We were so pleased that Mom would be in a great home where we could visit often. However, on the 4th day, the director Joy Johnson called all of us and indicated that our Mom was exhibiting behavior that was inappropriate for the Cottages. Joy said they were not talking about a move but wanted to warn us (this was day 4). The staff shared with us that Joy began gathering data on that day that could be used to evict our Mom. On January 22 our Mom received her eviction notice and we then had 30 days to move.
A decision to move your Mom into assisted living is challenging and can be very emotional. We took many months to make our decision to move our Mom to the Cottages, but Joy left us with but 30 days to find a suitable place to relocate our Mom. We were very fortunate that a space was available at Carlyle Place and our Mom is doing very well. Don’t make the mistake that we did!!!!
