It’s my firm belief that by serving your family with your property restoration needs, it will in turn allow me to support mine. My career in the restoration industry started innocently enough in high school as a part-time fire, water and mold technician with ServiceMaster. That was back in 1985, and since then I earned an engineering degree from UNL, spent a decade with Paul Davis Restoration and started my own restoration small business. What I have learned is that this business is about family, yours and mine. By taking care of your family in a water damage or mold emergency, it allows me to take care of mine. I don’t take that lightly. Thank you for considering DryHero!”

At DryHero, our objective is often mold prevention by mitigating water damage. When water damage goes undetected and untreated, mold can grow inside your home. We are IICRC AMRT trained and certified to remediate fungal contamination. Since mold growth is simply untreated water damage, we utilize our training and experience to locate the source of your water intrusion, limiting the potential for future water damage and subsequent mold.
How to Protect Yourself from Mold
Whenever a building suffers water damage, it’s important to promptly mitigation that damage by removing the excess water and dry the structure with dehumidification. Otherwise, excess moisture and standing water contribute to the growth of mold. If your home has been flooded, be aware that mold may be present and may be a health risk for your family.
If your home has suffered water damage, promptly clean and dry out the water damaged portions of the building. At DryHero, we highly recommend that a certified water damage restoration professional inspect your home to perform moisture testing and structure drying services if wet materials are discovered. If chronic water damage and subsequent mold growth is found, professional mold remediation services may be necessary.
People at Greatest Risk from Mold
People with asthma, allergies, or other breathing conditions may be more sensitive to mold. In addition, people with immune suppression (such as people with HIV infection, cancer patients taking chemotherapy, and people who have received an organ transplant) are also more susceptible to mold infections.
Possible Health Effects of Mold Exposure
People who are sensitive to mold may experience irritated eyes, stuffy nose, wheezing, or even skin irritation. People allergic to mold may also have difficulty in breathing and shortness of breath. People with weakened immune systems and with chronic lung diseases may develop mold infections in their lungs. If you or your family members have health problems after exposure to mold, contact your doctor or other health care provider.
Some of our customers prefer more of a hands-on approach to their water damage restoration projects. DryHero offers LGR (low grain refrigerant) and desiccant dehumidifier rentals. These are state-of-the-art, professional grade dehumidifiers that you won’t find in home improvement or contractor rental stores. These are the same commercial dehumidifiers we use in our water damage restoration business to quickly dry flooded buildings. Another added benefit is FREE delivery, setup instructions and pickup! We also rent air movers and air scrubbers.
Blowers, also known as Air Movers, Fans, Carpet Blowers or Carpet Dryers are a key element used as part of a structure drying process by Water Damage Technicians to dry out homes or businesses after they've been flooded.
These Blowers, (or Air Movers, Fans, Dryers, etc.) are a very important part of the structure drying process. The primary purpose of air movers & drying fans is to remove the wet air near the surface of the water damaged materials. This area is called "The Boundary Layer". If you don’t disrupt the boundary layer, drying the water damaged materials will require more time to dry.
Removing The Boundary Layer
Very near a wet surface, especially in still, stagnant air, the adjacent air is saturated: the humidity near the surface is at 100% RH (relative humidity). The condition of the air next to the saturated air is layered in degrees of saturation. Next to the saturated air-mass the humidity is 99%, then 98%, and so on until, at in inch or so away the from the wet surface, the humidity is the same as the ambient air.
What these blowers are designed to do so well is continually remove this wet boundary layer and replace it with warmer, drier air, therefore allowing evaporation to continue at a much faster pace. Also as a secondary benefit, most mold won't easily grow in areas with rapid air flow.
Thus, these Blowers (Air movers) will greatly increase airflow and speed the up drying process and will minimize the likelihood of mildew growth. IICRC standards give exact calculations for calculating the number of air movers to adequately dry a water damaged basement.
Mold Exposure & Allergies
Chances are that you have encountered mold at one point in your life. In fact, it would be impossible to avoid. Mold is everywhere in the environment. In Nebraska, if you have household dust, you have mold. That’s normal. The problems begin when buildings are subjected to chronic water intrusion and subsequent water damage or water damage that goes undetected, resulting in mold growth.
From faulty gutters and leaking foundation walls to an old loaf of bread, mold can grow anywhere we live. However, allergies related to mold exposure are a serious problem for many people. It is estimated that 10% of all Americans are allergic to mold.
Although rare, symptoms of mold allergies can include dizziness, nose bleeds, nausea, respiratory distress and skin rashes. In serious cases of overexposure, there is speculation in the medical community that mold may even cause death. Although death from mold may be a stretch, if you suspect that you are allergic or have been exposed to high levels of mold, check with your doctor for a mold allergy skin test.
The first step in treating a mold allergy is eliminating exposure. Either have the mold source remediated or avoid the contaminated area(s). If that’s not possible, your doctor might recommend antihistamine medications or a series of allergy shots to help reduce symptoms.
Unfortunately, detecting mold in your home can be difficult. Mold can grow year-round in many types of environments. If you have visible mold growth you can take steps to correct the problem. Mold can also grow in places that you are unlikely to see, such as closets, refrigerator door gaskets, air conditioner units and inside wall cavities.
If you suspect that your home is harboring potentially dangerous mold allergens, it’s time to call in the professionals. A water restoration and mold removal company can help identify the water source, assess the extent of the damage in your home and recommend a repair proposal to restore mold and water damaged materials.
The cost of professional water and mold restoration varies depending on the extent of damage and the specific job conditions. Some homeowner’s insurance policies may cover some types of water damage and the resulting mold growth.
Once the mold growth has been removed, be sure to keep up regular maintenance to ensure a mold outbreak does not occur in the future. Keep an eye out for leaks, and inspect windows and doors regularly to ensure that unwanted moisture cannot enter your home.
My career in the fire and water damage restoration industry began in 1985 when I took a part-time job with ServiceMaster. That restoration technician job helped me pay my way through college and eventually earn an Engineering degree from the University of Nebraska - Lincoln. Omaha’s Peter Kiewit hired me right out of college as a Project Engineer on heavy construction projects.
When the opportunity to move back to Lincoln Nebraska arose in 1994, I took it. The next ten years were spent with the Lincoln Nebraska franchise of Paul Davis Restoration. However, as the General Manager of Paul Davis Restoration, I found myself unemployed when the franchise sold in 2004. Although that was a challenging time for my family, we learned a great deal about ourselves and like many things in life, it was a blessing in disguise.
DryHero Launches with a Fresh Objective
After much consternation and soul searching, my wife, Jodie (a school teacher) and I decided to take the risk and pursue our passion for service and water damage restoration. In 2004 we started DryHero from scratch. We decided NOT to buy a franchise in an effort to minimize inefficiencies, control overhead and most of all, have the freedom operate our business the way we saw fit.
Instead of buying someone else’s system, we took our combined backgrounds and experience to build a company capable of delivering professional drying, mitigation and restoration services while providing old-fashioned Nebraska values. We focused less on image and more on the content of our restoration service. As a result, we try to exceed expecations and pass real savings on to our clients.
We’ll Completely Dry your Water Damaged House or it’s Free!
I’m confident that DryHero delivers the most thorough water damage restoration and drying services available. In fact, I guarantee that we’ll completely dry your water damaged home…or it’s free! Nobody else even comes close to this statement.
How can we be so bold? Simple. We actively pursue the best training and drying systems available. I’m confident that we can find the hidden moisture trapped within your water damaged home and effectively remove it. You have my word on it.
Sump pump failures and malfunctions, similar to flooded crawl spaces, can be difficult to dry. This is because when a pump fails, all the water that was supposed to be ejected from the foundation soil has nowhere to go. Moisture can saturate the soil with surprising speed.
Eastern Nebraska recently experienced a record rain fall. Not only was the soil adjacent to foundation walls becoming saturated with rain water, but the water table was so high in some areas that you could watch the hydraulic water pressure push water right through cracks in the basement’s concrete slab. When the ground outside the foundation wall is saturated, drying times will be extended. Good luck completely drying one of these structures in three days. Not if you understand how water wicks into and damages materials.
As the interior of the structure dries, moisture continues to enter the structure due to the water properties of wicking and diffusion. Prematurely pull equipment in this situation and you WILL have re-wetting and the odors associated with it.
