Hello Brian,We are sorry that there was a miscommunication in regard to your Estimate for an air conditioner – we did make a couple of return calls and were unsuccessful in reaching you – but we should have tried harder to contact you to explain the Estimate.Service Call ChargesIn regard to the original Service Call charges, you will find that just about every home repair company has a Service Call charge – for the time and gas/mileage of the Technician to get to the place that requires service. This is true of almost any home repair.A Service Technician has to spend time asking questions about the history of your equipment and other factors that go into his diagnostic decision-making about your problem. Our technician also performed manual tests on your unit that indicated it needed replacement. It is our policy to cancel the Service Call charges if a customer chooses to upgrade to a new unit (furnace or air) with us. Since we don’t know which unit you purchased and from whom, it is difficult to know if you truly saved $1,000 on your price.Labor RatesWe are a Local #18 Union Sheet Metal company, which means all of our employees are graduates of technical college HVAC programs and have served 5-year apprenticeships in order to earn their journeyman status. Our rates are similar to HVAC companies in the area, otherwise we couldn’t be in business.With a non-Union company, you might get a technician that was “trained by a guy, who was trained by another guy, who was trained by someone else who actually received his training in an approved program”. Our labor rates are commensurate with those in the area, as a company, that just means we make less profit than non-union shops. We want our customers to know that for something as important and expensive as heating and air conditioning, that Union-trained employees have the experience and training to make the safety of our customers’ installations our main goal.
