My family and I have been working with Shelly for some time now and she has always been an amazing help. I've been seeing her on and off for about two years now and I can confidently say she is the best therapist I have been to. She always makes me feel supported and encourages me to work through the hard stuff. I have accomplished so much healing and moving forward during my time with her and she will always be my top recommendation! She has truly made a huge impact in my life and has helped me become the version of myself I have always wanted to be. Without shelly, and her support, I wouldn't be who I am today.

Shelly Woertink has been excellent in the time that I have known her. We have been with her intermittently over the last 13 years. She has been an amazing counselor both child and family.
When she felt our child had success earlier in her life she discharged us but we knew we always had an open door. We are back seeing her again and it has been great. I find her insightful, compassionate, professional, and very knowledgeable. She has an extensive background in therapy and brings all of her experience into each session.
I know my family and I have benefitted greatly from working with her and I would recommend her to anyone without reservation.

Have an adopted child that had early developmental trauma. Shelly is the only person we have worked with that understands trauma and works with the patient to push through feelings and impulses to develop healthy responses to stressful triggers. She also helps the parent/caregiver develop positive tools to communicate more effectively and help the child move forward. Truly a team approach!

Shelly Woertink is THE WORST and should NOT be trusted with any patient dealing with trauma or anything. Keep your children far away. Look for help elsewhere if you truly need it. At first, working with Shelly seemed okay and necessary since my teen daughter needed serious help with Trauma and I was desperately seeking help and relief for my child. She was recommended by an astute psychologist. Shelly was able to help my teen identify sources of conflict and confusion, which brought my teen some clarity on why she was experiencing the thoughts that troubled her, and her triggers. However, Shelly has seen my teen daughter for over 1 year and during that time Shelly stopped therapy and started trying to become her personal advisor giving her negative advice that literally could have killed my daughter if she followed through with Shelly's advice (mentioned later). Due to patient confidentiality, I did not know much of this until about 1 week ago when my hurting daughter shared alot of information with me. Shelly has kept my daughter in a dark place, in a state of confusion, and has not helped her in a positive way. She has manipulated my teen through fear! Over time Shelly became a source of negativity for my teen and my teen eventually lost trust in her and did not share things with her that a client should feel open to discuss in therapy. Shelly DID NOT and DOES NOT provide a plan for treatment. She DOES NOT equip her clients with coping tools and resources. Instead, she wallows in her clients misery and keeps them there so they will always have a reason to come back. She drags her clients along from session to session blindly with no objective in sight. My teen progressively got worse as Shelly's patient because Shelly brings her personal thoughts and opinions, emotions and experiences into her sessions with her clients and damages her clients. My teen became more confused while with Shelly. Shelly has advised my teen at the end of her senior year in HS, while only 3-4 weeks out of the hospital with an eating disorder, with suicidal ideation, and actively self-harming to (get this:) Leave her support system, here in Michigan, leave school 4 months before graduation and move to South Carolina to live with the person who has been her primary source of trauma for the past 10 years!!! My daughter and I fired Shelly a few days after this HORRIBLE advice and has found someone else who now has to help her overcome new traumas caused by Shelly. Also, she is now getting the medical help she needs elsewhere. She has smiled more after leaving Shelly recently. I have had to apologize to my daughter because she trusted me with getting her the care she needs. Hiring Shelly was a failure on my part. Also, Shelly is very unprofessional and does not communicate well. She steps out of line a lot and oversteps boundaries, not accepting the role she was hired to do. She also does not work well in teams with medical professionals. She tells them (I'm sure) that she is taking their recommendations, but in practice she is not and completely disregards medical diagnoses. Another way she causes confusion in her clients. Shelly has on multiple occasions advised myself and my daughter to do the opposite of what medical doctors advise. Again, we were with Shelly for over 1 year and I should have taken heed of the red flags along the way. My goal now is to help others not make the decision we made to trust our child with Shelly Woertink. I apologize for any typos in this message. unprofessional and does not communicate well. She steps out of line a lot and oversteps boundaries, not accepting the role she was hired to do.
