I must apologize to you for an unsatisfactory trip. You have given us our first 1 star review on two profiles and decades of service on the same day that I had extremely high praise on a Square review and was requested by name for a crew's 4th year in a row with me. Not every day is going to be amazing fishing nor will we as humans always be at our best. But that doesn't mean that you don't deserve the best; I clearly let you down. I feel responsible for the hit to the company as well. The one thing I always try to do is make sure you have top notch gear and captains, including myself, at your disposal to make for a comfortable, fun, insightful trip whether we catch fish or not. I can tell you that the gunk on the lines after hours of no checking has no merit but that's not your fault and is on me as well. I usually make sure to explain my choices and how the gear works in enough detail that people understand my setup and gunky lures don't sour anybody's perception of the trip or captain. So far this year I have not run a single board line without weed protection due to a high density of debris this spring. The weather got warm quickly so I wanted to add a variety of depths to my board lines anyway so I kept them on. The downriggers don't weed up as they're protected from top debris and nowhere near the bottom on LPO -- unless I'm doing gear dragging 200ft down for macks as a hailmary during a tough bite and then I check them every 1-2 passes along the shelf. Always. A typical charter with our other captains this time of year is 6-10 lines. I run 12-13 unless I'm doing extracurricular fishing to try and help my crew get fish when we otherwise wouldn't. Going well above and beyond. Those bonus lines try and add MORE variety to our species target. They will weed up sometimes and I will let them. I also don't weed check the last hour because it's mathematically inefficient to do so. "Let whatever is running run." You'll also notice that all of our gear was fairly consistent. All of them the same model of rod. I've been staring at those exact rods for decades (thousands of hours a year) and I know what lures I put where which helps me identify with roughly 97% accuracy (I've been tested many times) whether anything, such as a weed, is disrupting the line. As far as you know it may have been intentional to improve the overall catch odds for the rods that would have had to stop fishing for 20 minutes each to fix the 2 or 3 messed ones, or it may have just happened right before I pulled lines in a current line that we just went through that I will normally point out, or, it was likely the gunk from the weed protection that I just removed and threw back in the water to then reel my line the rest of the way through the weeds that I just threw in. This happens daily. I know when I do it though so I pay no mind to it. But the optics can be bad from a customer's perspective. I can promise you that your lines were not a problem though. With 100% certainty. I have not let them be on any trip this year. I have slipped in the past and I admitted my mistakes and fixed them. I will do the same thing here. But please rest assured that whether your impression of me was up to standard just know that the fishing was done properly to every methodical detail.This is not to say that you're wrong in sharing your review but I did feel as though I owed it to you and our future customers that may see an unintentionally misleading remark about our gear handling to explain what happened from my side.I know on slow days we make it look easy with our heavy automation but there's a lot more going on than it seems and I feel like I typically provide a good enough service to my customers that they get that impression from me.I truly apologize for disappointing you and I hope you give me a chance to make it up to you.
