I reached out regarding discharging student loans via bankruptcy. I was told based on my situation and recent law changes that I had a very good likelihood of being able to discharge my student loan debt. Joan successfully processed the bankruptcy but could not discharge the student loan debt. I had no other debt to discharge so spent several months jumping through hoops and borrowed several thousand dollars worth of attorney fees from family for nothing. After the bankruptcy processed I was told we had up to a year to try to pursue a different approach on discharging the loans. I reached out three times after that point, none of my emails were returned. Yes, Joan can file bankruptcy for you; no she can not discharge your student loans with it. While I will say her office is competent at handling clients; I believe she knew she couldn't discharge my student loans and told me what she had to in order to get me to pay up, inevitably leaving me worse off then before I filed.
