image Update: spoke with the manager of the billing department and she took care of this. I greatly appreciate her quick action.
PLEASE BE AWARE OF YOUR RIGHTS RE: SURPRISE BILLING AND THE NO SURPRISES ACT of 2022
I have never had an issue with TJ Samson until recently. Everyone I have encountered at this hospital has been helpful and professional. However, I am very disappointed in the organization. I was a victim of "balance billing" or "surprise billing" after a visit to Urgent Care in January for an ear infection. This hospital is in network with my insurance, however, the provider on staff that evening, Elizabeth Combs, D.O., is out of network with my provider. I was unaware of this, and no one explained this to me, nor did I sign any documentation waiving my rights during this visit. I paid my copay before I left, and later when I received a bill from the facility I paid on time, as I always do.
Flash forward to 4/5/24, I received an email from Team Health for a bill for the services provided by Dr. Combs on that date. After talking with Team Health, and my insurance company, I realized what happened.
This is against the law. The Consolidated Appropriations Act/No Surprises Act of 2021 outlaws this exact situation:
"On December 27, 2020, the CAA, which includes the No Surprises Act, was enacted.[1]
The No Surprises Act provides Federal protections against surprise billing by limiting out-of-network cost sharing and prohibiting balance billing, in many of the circumstances in which surprise bills arise most frequently. Balance billing refers to the practice of out-of-network providers billing patients for the difference between: (1) the provider's billed charges, and (2) the amount collected from the plan or issuer plus the amount collected from the patient in the form of cost sharing (such as a copayment, coinsurance, or amounts paid toward a deductible)."
I am currently waiting to hear back from TJ Samson. I have already contacted my insurance company and filed an appeal.
Please be aware and know your rights before utilizing this hospital or its urgent care.

image TJ Home Health was wonderful to my dad before he died. They were prompt, efficient, caring, kind, and helpful. My dad looked forward to their visits and they were just always really positive and helpful. Their visits helped my dad keep his spirits up and that was as important as the excellent treatment he received from each practitioner who came to see him. They were truly a blessing during a challenging time.

image This place is a joke. I've been here for 4 hrs, bleeding and pregnant, and still in the lobby and they told me it's low priority and not an emergency

image Long story short my Dad was admitted to TJ on Wed morning the third of April. After 3 to 4 weeks of horrible back pain, we were back & forth to urgent care, ER, his family Dr Pendleton, then to his back Dr...she was the only one who took it serious. The Doctors here all thought he had hurt his back due to cutting wood. Which that's a whole other complaint. But luckily his "Bowling Green" Back Dr had scheduled an MRI for Wed which worked out since that's where he ended up due to the pain.
Also Wed he was diagnosed with cancer in his spine, in 3 different places, plus some on his liver. Plus fractures already in his spine. He had just had colon cancer & had surgery on his colon & liver in Jan which they said they got it all. They should never say that.
Quickly declined after Wed, had to put him on morphine Thur. Fri moved him to Shanti Hospice Home. But Fr morning TJ let him fall out of his bed. My brother left at 1am he was sleeping good then & they did not put his bed alarm on. Nurses station was close to his room (384) on the third floor. No excuse. An elderly, heavy sedated person who is already in pain, should not have to go through this on top of the other.
He had to have stitches in his left eyebrow, has a busted his lip & nose. Two swollen black eyes. Knees & arms bruised up. He's pitiful. I would post a picture if it let me.
You go to the hospital for care, not to leave in this condition. So now we're dealing with more back pain, head & neck pain from the fall.
He could have broke something or worse.
I just wanted it known so maybe this won't happen to another person & family.
TJ already has the worse reputation for this kind of stuff happening, the care, not being able to read Xrays correctly, plus scans, etc & misdiagnosis. Orher hospitals think theyre a joke. So something needs to be done.
