I took my taxes to h&r block for my taxes. I'm not great on what deduction I might be able to take advantage of but I would expect the tax advisor to know them and be looking out for me both by what I tell them and questions they ask. First off I had a bad taste in my mouth because I asked if I had a fire in my home and I incurred expenses like lodging, packing and other expenses that were not covered by insurance if there was some way to write those off. Not only did she not know but she was dumbfounded by the question and when she did find the answer which was no, I didn't feel confident asking many questions. In other words I felt stupid and didn't want to be stupider. Several months later I realized that I had forgotten deductions that I knew I was entitled to like a deduction for interest paid on a mortgage. I just have an all around bad taste in my mouth about h&r block. I have done business with them in the past but I'm questioning if it was ever a right decision. I felt that my advisor didn't really care. Do I think that I got the best tax advice I could get. No.
