image I had Paige as my therapist and she was amazing. Very easy to talk to and didnt force the direction of the topics. Our conversations would flow smoothly and she could steer me toward what was really bothering me. I dont know if I would be here today without her.

image So I started seeing a therapist about 15 months ago because I just wasn't where I needed to be in life. I had made some questionable choices and because of those I was heading down a dark road, much darker than I even realized at the time. I had no idea what to expect; who else would be there, how is this person going to judge me, what if they see me at the store, are they going to be thinking, really how much longer is this hour? I am going to get asked questions I don't want to talk about, what if I start crying, is that going to be uncomfortable? And every other possible scenario went through my head on the way there.
I have never once felt judged, or looked down upon, or felt uncomfortable. I was able to talk about what I needed to without having to explain myself every time I wanted to say something. I was able to ask what I wanted without feeling ashamed of myself or my situation. My therapist didn't push for more than I wanted to share, she was able to give me articles to read, and topics to research. I wasn't told to do this or that, it was always a discussion, and we were able to talk through different situations that could be related to mine.
I have learned so much about myself and how to react when situations occur, and the reason why some of my reactions are what they are. I have learned that my mental health is just as important as my physical health and my emotional health. I have learned it's ok to have an opinion and to not sway from those. I learned that just because I ignore the problem it doesn't go away or get better, I have learned to face uncomfortable conversations and that not everything has to be explained.
I have been given the resources and have taken the time and have built a new foundation for my life. A solid foundation of self worth and self love, sounds cliche but it is what it is. There are no words to express my gratitude for the services I have received from Headwaters counseling.
