Before my visit to Mitchell C C in Fairhope, I contacted the call in people to get a patient packet to fill out before arriving. Medical offices do not seem to realize how difficult it is for older people to remember their medical history and medications. Ashley did. Asher M Cowa-Gibbs was pleasant, congenital,
and helpful . You could almost see her smiling. She emailed the packet, which I filled out, with the help of the records I had at home.
Patience and understanding are important in a medical staff and Doctors. Ashley displayed those qualities over the phone.

left tourniquet on spouses arm for 2 1/2 hours before being found, while putting chemo into that arm. Stood at counter to make new appt while woman talked about online dating. She made 3 mistakes 3 different times. Very unprofessional. Dr. was horrible also.

My wife recently went for her initial diagnosis and when asked if a second opinion was a good idea, the doctor concurred. She had an appointment at MD Anderson and was told that all of her records and test results would be forwarded. During the time between leaving Fairhope and making her first visit to MD Anderson, she made several calls to the Mitchell Center to ask about her records and she was put on hold each time for 15-20 minutes and then transferred to an automated answering service for prescription drugs. Upon our return to the Mitchell Center, we asked about this and we were told that the previous staffing had been reduced from 4 people to handle incoming calls and questions, to 2 people to handle this work load, resulting in long delays and and poor results. I hope that the bean counters at USAMC can find a way to resolve this issue as it is very disconcerting to the patients involved and their families.
