image Great budget motel! Stayed here for a few nights to ski Purgatory and had a good experience. The queen room was quite small, the sink drain was very slow and shower a bit dirty but no major issues. Good heat in the winter, decently comfortable bed, and overall felt safe. The hot tub was nice too. Free breakfast 6-9am with yogurts, waffles, cereal, muffins and oatmeal. For the price you cant beat it and Ill be back next time Im in Durango.
Rooms: Small but sufficient queen room. Has a microwave and fridge and small TV.
Walkability: Sidewalks in the area. 20 minute walk to downtown. 5 minute walk to a few restaurants.

image I brought a group of 15 Graduate students here for two nights as part of a field seminar starting in Durango. This morning one of my students took a photo if a bed bug, showed the front desk who said it was a bed bug, and then we spent the entire day cleaning all of our clothes, camping equipment, and cars. We spent a few hundred dollars collectively on new clothes to wear while we cleaned, detergent, specialty cleaning material for our gear, and at the laundromat. Management called my student who had found the bed bug and comped her room. When she asked about the other rooms the manager called her an extortionist and threatened to sue her for libel if she said anything about it online. He then said we brought the bug with us.
I've had a good experience taking this seminar to this location before. And I'm fine having a frank discussion about the situation and figuring out the right answer. But calling a young woman names and threatening her with a lawsuit over the phone is absolutely beyond the pale. Would not recommend, will not return.

Hello, thank you for the review. As you stated, I did comp the room in question, and we will be following all appropriate protocols. Unfortunately, bed bugs do happen. Our staff is trained to watch for any sign of them, and if they or any guest sees any sign of them we call in professionals right away, and follow their advice. I never at any point denied the incident. The young woman in question was threatening to have an entire group leave bad reviews alleging negligence over the room unless I refunded all rooms. I did say it was libel, by definition, to organize such a thing. Extortion is obtaining something, usually money, through threats. At that moment, both were applicable. We take any pests or any other potential liability very seriously. We want our guests to experience a safe and clean environment. I offered to leave the room untouched for inspection. I didn't have anything to hide. I believe I responded appropriately with the refunded room, the offer of inspection of said room, and of course immediately remediating the issue. We take this issue very seriously.Steve, GM

image Conveniently located on North Main Ave. Durango trolley stop located across the street. Buses run every 20 minutes. There is plenty of parking in the main lot, back lot, and side of building for longer vehicles. Clean, comfortable rooms. Simple breakfast offered from 6am-9am. Close to many great sit-down restaurants. The staff is helpful and kind.
Rooms: The rooms are clean and comfortable for an economy level motel in Durango. The historic building provides standard king and double queen rooms as well as larger suites. The Econolodge is a two-story, exterior corridor motel without an elevator.
Nearby activities: The historic Durango Silverton Railroad is a short trolley ride down Main Ave. Don't miss the fantastic museum located at the train depot. Visit the first Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, near the train depot. Great shopping and restaurants line downtown Main Ave. The motel is within walking distance to the River Trail and public library.
Food & drinks: Walking distance to Wendy's, Tom's Deli, Animas Brewery, Happy Pappys Pizza, and Frida's Mexican Restaurant. More fantastic restaurants can be found on South Main (downtown).
