I will be reporting Schumacher to BBB, Colorado regulatory divisions and pursuing whatever legal action is possible. Schumacher prepared my personal and business taxes for at least a decade. As I began to learn in 2019, beginning around 2015, Schumacher failed for a period of years to file basic forms with my taxes. I, myself, learned this when I called the IRS in 2019. I took copious notes on that call and immediately forwarded them to Schumacher, conveying what the IRS person told me: *It is probably no big deal, but the forms need to be filed.* I received no response to my email. Thinking this was a family-business that my family had worked with years and that surely, Schumacher would address such a matter, I followed up with additional emails. And this is not an exaggeration, I sent emails to Schumacher for a year and half. I begged for help in the emails, please just submit the forms, this is why you were paid, you have my records. // I received one response from the person who prepared our personal taxes informing me, in the email, so I have a record of this, that Tom was responsible for my business tax paperwork. I received nothing. Schumacher, as I would learn, failed to submit basic documents from around 2015 through at least 2020. I had to hire an accountant to forensically piece together the missing information and documents. As of now, Schumacher cost me thousands of dollars in those fees, and ON TOP of that, as of now, cost me approximately $20,000 in taxes I paid in advance and was entitled to receive in refund. But evidently have lost due to statue of limitation rules with IRS. Tom, Ron as well as others were on the emails I sent for a year and half; I have the acknowledgment of receipt of my emails from a staff person there and along with the staffer stating the obvious: that Tom was responsible to address my MANY emails. I am glad I held onto ALL of these communications. I leave this review because Schumacher should not be in business; and because others who write reviews here who have experienced this, and others I suspect who also have also had such wrong done to them by Schumacher but have not left a "review," should also consider legal action and have those responsible held accountable according to the law.

Not even one star. ZERO. This company used to be great. Things went under when Ron retired. Tom never submitted our taxes and now we have a huge late fee from the IRS and they will not respond. DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY. Trust me take your business elsewhere. Failure to reimburse my family will result in legal persuit, report to the BBB, and attorney general.

I too have used this business with great success in the past. However my experience is not much different than the recent reviews found below. Not only has Tom failed to return my calls and email for the past four months he personally insulted me.
After several attempts to contact Tom and coming to the realization that he is not capable I began requesting copies of my documents from the original sources. I was able to recover, with a great deal of effort and time, the documents needed to hire a real professional accounting firm to complete and file my return. I owe interest on money owed to the feds and state for 2021 due to Toms failure to fulfill his obligations to comunicate with me as his client..
I was able to find the front door unlocked on 7-13-22 at 1pm. I entered the business requested to see Tom and was informed that he is rarely, if ever, in the office. I sat down on the couch and let the young lady know that I would not be leaving without my documents in hand. In turn she dialed Tom and somehow magically was able to get Tom on the phone. She informed him that I was in the office and not leaving without my documents. He arrived ten / twenty minutes later (with an attitude). He fumbled around his office like a small child looking for my documents. Words were exchanged and he mentioned to me that he was hot. I questioned his use of the word hot. He explained that he was upset with me. Thats right he was upset with me.
The above mentioned insult was received due to the fact that I hold him accountable. He laughed at me when I requested that he pay the interest owed to the fed and state. He then actually said to me these words if you want I can help you with filing your return. My reply "you had four months to call me back and help me buddy" is a less colorful statement than what I actually replied.
I can see that Schumacher Accounting and Tax Service is in great decline. What Tom fails to see is that his total lack of communication causes the livelihood of others to be at stake. In my opinion Tom fails to see this because he is an individual who has never had to earn his keep. Tom only knows how to take from others. Schumacher Accounting and Tax Service will most likely be vacant and for rent soon. And Tom will most likely benefit from that as well. What a sham.

The firm received my tax paperwork prior to the May deadline and as I had done in past years, I did not make copies.  It is now late November and I  have not received any correspondence from Tom. Earlier, I called and talked to a lady at the office and she said that if I had not heard from Tom, he probably put in for an extension. As it turns out, he did not and nothing had been done. I have been leaving emails and voice mails almost weekly trying to get my paperwork back with no success. I am not sure what is going on but as I am going to get fined by both the state and Federal, I am not happy.

Ron has prepared my taxes since the mid 80's and I can't say enough great things about him - unfortunately his son Tom has taken over the business. Tom, does not return calls or emails he has had my tax documents since April - with absolutely no communication despite many emails and phone calls. He has my completely hamstrung because he has everything I need to file my taxes and has not even attempted to call me back. I am at my wits end.
