As a new pipe smoker, I was a bit intimidated to walk into this establishment. But, a gentleman named Douglas greeted me, welcomed me, and walked me into the relaxing art of enjoying a pipe of tobacco. The store and the employees are such patient professionals and extremely friendly!
Go ahead: shut the internet down. Im buying ALL of my product - by phone - with Iwan Ries from here forward.

I really enjoyed my first (of many) visit(s) to Iwan Ries. I was looking for a store brand pipe to commemorate experiencing this pipe smoking mecca. Douglas's customer service was the best in the business. He spent well over an hour interacting with me while also helping other patrons. I was very impressed with his honest sales approach and clear desire to create the best experience for his customers.

Are you kidding me? Cigars, Brought a bottle of whiskey, a location for some quality conversation, and some great conversation with strangers if you want (and privacy if thats what you prefer) this place is 10/10 perfect. Came here on a friends recommendation and will be back without doubt. Daniel greeted us when we arrived and made us feel like we were apart of the family. Plus the cool history of the oldest tobacco shop in the country?! This place is a no brainer.

Im from downstate Illinois and make it a point to stop in here every time I visit Chicago. My local tobacconist closed down but the service at Iwan Ries is just as good, actually better. Douglas surprisingly recognized me from my previous visits, and immediately asked what I was looking for in a pipe. I gave him my price range and pipe size and shape preferences and spent the next hour or so going through pipes with Douglas. Its always an experience when I visit Iwan Ries and Douglas never disappoints. I found an estate Boswell pipe that I fell in love with, and the price was amazing I my opinion. He gave my significant other and I a tour of the awesome lounge area and made us feel like the most important customers hes ever had, even being attentive enough to get us some water and let me pack my pipe with some different house blends to try.
As long as nothing changes at Iwan Ries, I will be singing their praises and a repeat customer for life!!
