They told me they would represent me and then made me go through intake again and refused my case with no explanation. Wasted my time. Staff not helpful.

I had recently promised Mr. Spielberger (Bill) that I would try to solve a software problem on his office computer, but could not remember the address. Looking on-line for Bill’s office address I came across this listing.
I am a physician who has known Attorney Bill Spielberger for 25 years. I admire Bill for his skillful commitment to those who are overwhelmed by fine-print bankers, home-repair hucksters or city bureaucrats. In one case he made over 100 trips to a distant court on behalf of a woman who could not afford to pay him. He saved her home as he has done for very many others. Also I know of his commitment to representing not only the poor but also those with physical and psychological disabilities who often are bewildered by the complexities of the legal processes they are encountering. It is not coincidental to his practice that Bill also has a broad and deep knowledge of literature. I have recommended him as a lawyer without hesitation to numerous friends and relatives.

This guy was 'recommended' by the guy who later did an 'audit' (which every other att'y I've discussed it with has said won't be of any help in saving my home from the almost-confirmed sale that Spielberger allowed to take place through his negligence). He had had a good SIX months to file all sorts of discovery /motions and what-not; instead he blew it by taking classes for his personal enrichment, failed to return my calls or emails and otherwise failed to keep me updated on the progress (or rather, lack of) in my case.
He just did not bother.
I can't understand why he simply wasn't honest with me and return my files, etc. so I could find another REAL attorney to take it.
As a result, the case went to Summary Judgment in September (a fact I wasn't aware of until December, when I got the notice of the sheriff's sale, in spite of an October face-to-face meeting with him in his Chicago office, where he wasted most of that hour being on the phone with yet another useless 'rep' from India.) He then wanted me to come back into his office, ostensibly to fill out the modification forms he'd requested from the rep (I'd already filled out 3 separate packets over the previous 2 years, only to have my info 'lost' or otherwise mishandled) yet when I called him in November, his 'excuse du jour' was that his wife had just had an accident... from that point on he was 'unavailable' due to the woman apparently needing surgery after surgery. This went on until well into January. I gave up trying to see him by the start of December and just filled out and sent the modification info myself. Never heard anything more from them.cc
Anyway, the letter from the Sheriff arrived around the middle of December and I panicked. I asked him what on earth did (or could) he do to prevent this.
I just learned for certain a couple of days ago (from a REAL attorney who was nice enough to check) that this man never filed ANYthing during the 6 month period before the S.J. The ONLY motion he filed was a 'dismissal' - filed 2 weeks AFTER the sale. As might be expected, the judge denied it as it should have been filed months earlier. He was able to come back on the day of the scheduled confirmation to ask for a short extension until 3/11- but obviously didn't intend to pursue it further.
Spielberger didn't live up to any of his hype. He could have prevented the sale, but didn't. He has to share the blame - along with Ocwen and the fraudsters at HSBC - that I will soon be homeless. There's probably a reason he doesn't carry legal malpractice insurance, but when I and my new attorney get done with him, he'll wish he 'd had it. I certainly hope to see him eventually disbarred so he doesn't do something like this to anyone else.
