I moved into the area about a year and a half ago and have been a frequent patron of this place. The employees are generally nice, but there is a lot of turnover, and they sometimes share their dissatisfaction with the owner, unprompted, which can be uncomfortable as a customer, but understandable.
When I first moved here there was a decent selection, though most everything was overpriced. However, over the course of the last 6 months, the selection has dwindled to almost nothing. Most of the aisles are full of empty overturned boxes of products they used to carry. The notable exception is the beer selection. It seems to be regularly restocked with good options, though it’s usually more expensive than you would find at Jewel Osco.
In the recent months they have raised the minimums on cards to $3 for debit and $6 for credit cards which is high. Also, their card reader doesn’t seem to work anymore, so they have to input your card information by hand, which can take a while. I try to use cash when I can, but they often don’t even have enough change in the register to handle basic cash transactions.
So unless you’re looking for quick access to beer, I would go somewhere else. The Uptown FoodTown is just down the street and a much better establishment. They are family owned, fairly priced, incredibly helpful, and stock a great selection of items (including fresh produce and hot items you can get to go).
EDIT 4/17/18 - Lowering my rating to 1 Star. Even if you wanted to get beer, they don’t seem to be keeping regular hours anymore. In the last month, they were closed half the time I went, even when it wasn’t near their posted opening and closing hours. This place seems to be on its last legs. Don’t go here.
