This has been a great choice. My daughter has attended for three years (started at nine) and my son for the past year (started at close to age 6). They have learned many skills and techniques to protect themselves and escape from an attacker that you just don't know without coming to this type of school. As importantly, if attacked they are much more likely to be able to focus on what they can do to escape than to be frozen with fear. The instructors are all qualified and good hearted individuals. The school is a safe place for kids and the facility is nice with a weight room that the owner allows parents to use for free. It certainly helped me lose extra pounds that comes from no exercise! The school is welcoming to all and I love the diversity you see with many boys, girls and participants from different races and cultures.
As a parent, I am committed to give my kids all the skills that they will need to be successful in this world. The amount of violence that occurs daily causes me to worry about their safety. However, while you can never prevent everything, I at least can feel good about the fact that I did all that I could to give them a good chance of being able to escape harm if it happens to come their way.
Give it a try, I think you will be glad you did.
