If you are thinking about using Decorative Sand and Stone Company, PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT. Save your time, money, and a huge headache and keep away as far as possible. Like most people, we spent a lot of time searching for contractors that would install a rubberized surface, or epoxy pebble over our old pool deck and money and quality of the finished product were key driving factors. Decostone appears to have a decent website and were very responsive to questions and sending out samples. The price quoted was lower than most contractors and the material used was the proper selection for the industry. That is where the positives run out. Lenny, the said owner and main one trick pony show is it. If you think you are getting some "team" of workers, think again. You just get Lenny...and that is if/when he shows up. Our project was quoted to be complete in less than a week. After three weeks and still not complete, Lenny refused to answer and/or complete the job. We showed a tremendous amount of patience and were very realistic with expectations, given the high heat of summer and thunderstorms. When Lenny showed up and worked, he worked hard and pushed hard for approximately 4hrs a day. Then there were days (4 in a row where he was a no show and M.I.A. to text and calls). Lenny has killed many patches of grass with spilled diesel fuel, epoxy, and trash in general left around are yard. Lenny is a snake charmer. He seems to have knowledge in the field as very few people work with the rubber epoxies and urethanes, but he is all talk and will not complete the project. He is full of lies and excuses every day. The worst part of the ordeal is that Lenny breached our written contract by not finishing and stole money under false pretense when he committed check fraud. After reaching out to many of his prior clients and prospective future clients, it all starts to make sense. Lenny takes a job and does it to about 70% completion. He never intends to finish as he takes pictures prior to finishing and then disappears. For his pictures, he zooms out pretty far so you don’t see his errors and unfinished parts. He even sticks little foam insulation pieces under pool coping edges to make it appear lined up and finished. The only purpose of that is to make his photos look good enough to show the next client. I must also add, never trust a contractor how doesn’t even take his own measurements…and then later blames the homeowner for being incorrect. Lenny and his wife live in Arizona during the winter months and apparently lives with a brother in the Massachusetts area for the summer working months. He basically operates and lives out of his rental car up and down the east coast starting new jobs and then bouncing to the next after he gets his money. His business has no license and the amount he asks upfront is not legal in the state of Maryland (where our project was). We filed a BBB complaint and as you can imagine, he nor his wife ever responded. I could write on and on with the issues we were left with, but the bottom line – DO NOT USE Lenny and/or Decostone.
