Mark White Photography

Mark White enjoys capturing people -- whether at a street protest, in motion, or after he puts you at ease with some good conversation and questions about what turn your life has taken to bring you in search of a fresh set of portraits. His experience in photo journalism and many years in Seattle running publishing and media-related businesses give him the knack for reading people, understanding how you'll use the images, and teasing out the best in his subjects. I recently went to see Mark for fresh photos for a new web site, and I appreciated that he got "my eyes" and managed to get a facial expression that isn't my typical, stern "resting B" face. I also appreciate that Mark traveled to take portraits of writers attending an artists' residency I started called Mineral School. Not only did photos mark the occasion of the first residency of its type in the Northwest and help the group feel how special their gathering was, but these writers have been able to use these photos professionally (for author bios etc.). Mark's a great shot, especially for folks who are creative and entrepreneurial and wear their personalities brightly.

"We have been professional musicians for over 30 years and found ourselves in need of some new promo shots after the pandemic hiatus. Working with Mark White was really fun and easy. He had us play live (accordion and guitar) while he photographed us, as well as leading us through poses. His setup contains space for both great natural-light and controlled studio-light photography. Marks easygoing attitude and expertise gave us the results we were hoping for images that were already using for our promotions and events!" Miles and Karina
