20% tip added to the check automatically, presumably to distribute it to employees that scowl at you from the moment you walk in to the moment you pay the check.

The Fat Hen is a delightful little cafe/brunch spot that provides an elevated provincial farmhouse chic experience. We had the Shakshuka and Alla Boscaiola. Both are hearty and warming dishes that pair well with the classic damp & overcast Seattle afternoon. The espresso drinks we started with were surprisingly tasty. I try not to be a coffee snob but you know that whoever made them (or the person training everyone on the bar) cares about consistency and balance. We arrived right around noon on Monday and waited no more than a minute for a table to be reset for us. That said, almost all inside tables were occupied at the peak of service. I imagine long waits on a Saturday or Sunday... But you've been to a busy brunch before, I don't have to explain the headache to you. From here, we took a leisurely stroll downhill to where we live near the Ballard Bridge. Go even just 1 block west of 15th St for a happy little residential neighborhood of Ballard. Houses seem more quaint and cuddle closer together on thin streets, shifting the power to walkers making it much more enjoyable than driving.
