My main two criticisms are in their design services/spatial planning (as in what plants would go where) and monthly maintenance (watering, pruning, fertilizing, etc.).
Our plant maintenance was once a week prior to covid and the shutdown. After the shut down, it was reduced to once every other week. We were still paying the same as if it were every week. Then, when we went back into office, the schedule remained every other week and we would have had to pay extra if we wanted to go back to once a week. The contract did not change, though, so this was our first red flag. We were paying the original amount for less maintenance, and would have had to pay more to get the amount maintenance that was in our original contract.
That monthly maintenance cost was over $700, and the maintenance worker was only in two times a month, for maybe 10-20 minutes each visit. I should also mention that he sat on his phone most of the time. The plants started looking very unhappy, weren't growing, and some were losing leaves or the leaves were burning (sun damage) and/or shriveling up. There are about 16 different species that they brought in to our space, and they all require different types of maintenance, watering schedules, etc. We believe they weren't getting the right care or enough attention, but we weren't prepared to pay additional costs at the time.
We reached out to Botanical to look into replacements for the plants that weren't doing well, as they were all under warranty. However, they said they believed the plants were healthy so they wouldn't be covered under warranty and we would have had to pay an additional $750 for select plant replacements (were weren't looking to have them all replaced, just 2-3 plants/trees). Firstly, this made us not trust their judgement. Before pictures (from when they were first installed in our space) and after pictures (their current state) clearly showed that they were beginning to deteriorate and/or were not receiving the right care. So them saying they thought they were healthy was another red flag. Secondly, the plants weren't covered under warranty because of this, so it was another thing on the contract that no longer meant anything. These red flags, along with our dissatisfaction with the maintenance they were receiving, led us to cancelling our contract with them. Our office chose to save that hefty maintenance bill and care for them ourselves.
I originally would have endorsed their design and installation services, but after researching all the plants we had and creating our own care plan based on the different species, I discovered that they put plants in that would not do well in our space. One example is that plants that are known to be incredibly sensitive to light/sun, heat and cold were placed near windows. No wonder these plants were dropping leaves and others were burning. We had all the confidence in them when they were designing a well-thought out space plan. We believed that they knew which plants would thrive here and where they would thrive. Yet 13/16 species they placed in our space are not recommended by other plant professionals to have gone in our space at all, and they were placed in the wrong areas (too much light, etc.).
Under the care of another employee in my office, the plants started doing do much better and are actually starting to sprout more stems and leaves! We also moved plants around (and away from windows) in hopes that they will begin to recover.
I would not recommend using their services, for design or maintenance especially. We are honestly very disappointed, when we had gone into a contract with them with total faith and confidence. I would include pictures, however, I would prefer to have my business remain anonymous and the pictures would clearly show my business.
