I had two pelvic surgeries under the care of Dr. Firoozabadi and Harborview ortho teams. The first was to remove the last 8in screw holding my left & right hips together. The second was reconstruction of the scar. Having numerous surgeries with a plethora of doctors and teams in the last ten years in various states from poly trauma in a fatal car crash, I have a credible opinion. From the first two minutes, I instinctively knew I was in good hands with Dr Firoozabadi and going to get the help with some involved & atypical procedures. It was an immediate symbiotic relationship of trust and validation for all my struggles. He has great calming energy, and is an attentive, caring, personable & skilled physician who is in high demand, yet, takes time to listen. Good sense of humor, pace and I appreciate his frankness and being able to be frank greatly. Because Dr Firoozabadi listened to me and has great skill, I have considerably less pain and amazing range of motion today. After the first surgery, I was able to return to a full schedule of activities, including excelling in Vinyasa yoga instruction. I am also very grateful to the Harborview ortho teams. The nurses, surgical team and anesthesia team, particularly the last team supporting me in my last procedure on Nov 2023 were beyond amazing. I have some PTSD, am very hard of hearing and tend to have typical symptoms and reactions to meds, anesthesia so Im a little high maintenance. The anecdotal records , the prep and the conversations before and after the surgeries made me feel secure. The personable mini authentic conversations I had with the nurses, team members and even the smiles of reassurance made all the difference in emotional healing. A particular shout out to the to the RN that got this ball rolling on the urgent matter: Mechelle C. I really cannot express my gratitude enough. I wish ALL of my medical needs could be under the care of Dr. Firoozabadi and his teams! I want to adopt him into the family. Why cant all doctors be like him?!

The Harborview Hospital has helped me several times when no one else could or would, but this latest experience has been so special that I need to tell others so that they and the Dr. who helped me, receive acknowledgement of its great importance. I fell, hurt my head and lower back and was treated by a hospital in another city. After X-rays and C/T scans, twice! they maintained nothing was broken, not even a compression fracture. However, I had severe pain in my left lower back and entire leg; I could not sit, stand, or walk, only with great difficulty. I saw another ER in the area here; they did nothing to help me just said to see someone else. I knew then it was the UW who would be the only facility to see next. They immediately found that I had a broken pelvis - so I really wasn't a hypochondriac after all! No wonder the pain had been so severe for all those long weeks! Then those doctors came up with a treatment plan that was quite astonishing to me: "Ordinarily," said the Dr. "we would not do this for someone your age (85), but so many people have spoken up on your behalf and said you would be a good candidate for this surgery. It is to receive a long screw that enters your left side and attaches to the right side of your pelvis. This will give you support, strength, and stability for an area which also shows osteoarthritis deterioration." This is an incredible gift of life, which I treasure. Without this treatment, I would have just curled up more with pain and deterioration, along with the existing scoliosis, and been a very useless person. Now I will live longer and stronger, able to pass on to others more of what I do, often anonymously. It is like ripples on the water. I have great admiration and appreciation for the precise skill involved with this surgery. At my recent final buyoff appointment, Dr. Reza Firoozabadi was very kind to take the time from his busy surgery schedule to speak to me personally. Smiling, gracious, and oh-so-skilled, he is my hero!! With gratitude to all who also helped me at Harborview Hospital, Patricia A. Roberts
