I had the traumatic displeasure of being treated by Amber at Harborview ER in March and if I had the ability to take her to court, I would.
I was sent there by my pcp due to suspected complications from anemia and persistent kidney infections. Amber immediately dismissed my concerns and my doctors and after aggressively poking my back, told me that I had a pinched nerve in my back (due to my weight). She refused to acknowledge my symptoms, told me that I didnt know where my kidneys were and when I asked her to explain test results on MyChart, she yanked my phone from my hand and told me I didnt know what I was talking about.
I was so distressed by the treatment of Amber that I asked for another doctor, only to be told there was no other doctor (in a hospital). I then asked to leave, I actually begged, sobbing for them to let me go home, that if her diagnosis was my weight causing a pinched nerve that presented no medical emergency and she didnt want to even consider what my doctor was worried about, I wanted to go home and she refused, she illegally held me hostage with an IV in my arm and said shed run a few tests just to prove to me that she was right. None of the tests she ran were for diagnosing the pinched nerve she insisted I had.
I spent four hours in the er that day, distressed, humiliated, held hostage and medically abused by Amber. No one checked on me, even as they consistently walked past my bed where I was sobbing the entire time, and when they did come to give me pain medication (that I didnt request, I simply acknowledged that I was in pain the only time someone checked on me) I wasnt told what I was being given and when I expressed to the nurse that Ambers treatment of me was upsetting, she told me that shed never had any experience with her like that and then walked away from me. Later, I was taken back for an ultrasound and told a nurse would come to bring me back to my bed and instead, I was left sitting in a wheelchair in a dark exam room for twenty minutes.
In the end, despite no testing for such a diagnosis, Amber said I had a pinched nerve and prescribed insanely strong steroids, suggesting I see a physical therapist. I left Harborview in pain, exhausted from crying and entirely traumatized. When I called my pcp, they went over my test results and prescribed me an entirely different treatment plan, for the infection they were worried about.
I reached out multiple times to Harborview and to UW about Amber and her appalling behavior and never heard back from anyone.
Amber should not be a doctor, she should be in jail. Her body shaming, prejudice and egotistical behavior will cause someone their life one day. I only wish I could take her to court before that happened but I do not have the means to do so.
