Mark Shuler is an expert navigator of the Seattle DCI permitting and project management labrynth, and was an essential partner in establishing use for the record for a small apartment we own in Seattle. He is responsive, professional and a good value - I would never attempt a permitted construction or remodel project in Seattle without him. I recommend Shuler Architecture without reservations!

Mark Shuler was a consultant for me on several occasions in 2013 for two townhouse repair projects. Not only did he recognize and explain the construction defects but he referred me to the appropriate professionals to repair them.

Mark Shuler worked with me on a very extensive house-lift, addition, and new foundation. It cost nearly as much as I paid for the house a few years earlier. His guidance was absolutely critical. He set me up with the excellent contractor I wound up using (STS Remodeling) and created a terrific design that had many smart features I would not have ever thought of. All the entrances are covered, for instance. We have 6' windows in the north-facing stairwell which bring in lots of light. And the lower level apartment he designed is stunning. We used an I-beam so we could have an open floor plan, with nine-foot ceilings and full-sized windows. You would never know it's a basement. It's nicer than the main level! Mark checked in on the project often while it was going on, whether I was there or not, and worked with the contractor directly, which was great. When we hit a big snag with drainage, he and the contractor worked on an affordable solution they then presented to me. I hope to do more projects with him soon -- he's already done some more designs for me, just need to find the $$ to execute them.

Mark is not only a highly creative architect but he also pays attention to -- and has deep knowledge of -- critical details like cost, zoning and permitting. He provides great customer service and really cares about his clients as he follows projects through from initial concept to completion of the finishing work. For me, Mark did an amazing job returning traditional Craftsman charm to the front of my 1908 bungalow, which had had all of its original character stripped away and flattened out in a 1950s remodel. He extended the roof to recreate an eve, added a deck with covered door entry and trellis, and replaced the awful aluminum windows that had been installed in the front wall with latticed, double-hung, wood windows that match the original windows in the rest of the house. I now have perfect strangers stopping by and asking me about the house and its history, and its curb appeal has jumped by 90 percent. I would refer anyone to Mark, whether they simply wanted consulting on a real estate purchase, drawings and builder recommendations for a remodel, or the creation of a large, beautiful new home. He can do it all, well.

I have the highest regard for Mark Shuler as an architect. I sought out Mark to hire him to help renovate our home in 1998, after I had repeatedly run into incredibly beautiful homes in my neighborhood that he had both built and remodeled. Since that time he has worked on a number of different projects for me, and each time I am impressed with his integrity and creativity. He is an incredibly personable man who takes a great deal of time working with each client to make sure that the home he creates (or what he creates for a home) is exactly what the client desires AND will work well for their type of lifestyle. I have recommended him every time someone has asked for the name of an architect because I think so highly of Mark Shuler and the architectural work he does. You will NOT regret calling Mark and using his services.
