This is a low-income apartment building located in the New Holly neighborhood of Seattle. It contains 18 apartments, which is a very small number compared to most low-income housing facilities, one would think it would be relatively simple to manage as a result. It is owned and managed by Sound Mental Health who in collaboration with Housing Resources Group, SMR Architects, Walsh Construction Company, and others designed and oversaw is construction. It's original intention was to be used for housing of formerly homeless individuals with HIV or AIDS. It is a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Certified building and could have been made to feel much more welcoming and less clinical with regard to that, but unfortunately the design went the direction of a hospice rather than that of a place where people could call home. The management has further added to the less than home-like sensibility by making arbitrary rules which restrict the tenants much in the way a forced confinement facility might. For the amount of money spent and the design process that this project went through, it is a shame that the result ends up being what appears and functions like a poorly run assisted care facility where no one cares.
