My daughter leases property managed by Matchbox, and her experience has been awful. They do everything they can to charge her fees, with constant hidden costs and, in general, shady and unfair practices. They take advantage of young adults who sometimes don't know better. If you are a parent and assisting your child who may be looking for a place to live while attending school in Harrisonburg, I strongly suggest that you avoid properties managed by Matchbox

My tenure at Matchbox has been nothing short of atrocious. The leasing staff here is not just rude and dismissive, but they also have a remarkable talent for misunderstanding even the most straightforward of concerns. From the very beginning, I was met with a barrage of unexpected fees and charges. It felt like I was being arbitrarily penalized for simply trying to live in a place I thought I could afford. What's worse is that when I tried to back out of the lease, the leasing office refused to let me do so without demanding an absurd amount of money as a penalty. This was even though the lease hadn't officially begun! It's clear that Matchbox is more concerned with squeezing every last penny out of their tenants than with providing a fair and transparent living experience. I would strongly advise anyone considering renting from them to think twice and explore other options. It's not worth the headache and financial burden.

I literally never write reviews, but in a time where rent is already expensive wherever you live, the policy's they have in place here at Matchbox are unethical. They force people to make a decision on renewing your lease 6 MONTHS... 6 MONTHS before your lease ends. And now that I know I cannot renew my lease (still super early), I must pay an "early termination fee" for a lease that doesn't even start for another 4 months. If you're debating on where you want to live, avoid matchbox. Also, all of the positive reviews that you see on here that specifically include staff members names aren't legit.
