State Department Federal Credit Union

Been with this credit union for over 10 years and they still wont approve me for any loans. But Im able to get loans approvals every where else. Seems very discriminatory

I have been a member since I graduated college in 1997. My Army veteran father has been with them since the 70s after working at the Pentagon. SDFCU has been an outstanding financial institution to our family. Every service I've ever needed from their educational scholarship to my current mortgage has been approved by this credit union. After seeing the shocking 2 star ratings, I felt compelled to share MY experience. Thank you to SDFCU for being my favorite banking institution. I'm proud to be a customer, you have never disappointed me.

I recently got an auto loan through them and it was the worst experience I've ever had with one. I made at least 15-20 phone calls trying to pay it off early just to end up getting transferred around between their poor customer service and being told "oh the systems down" "the specialist isn't working right now" blah blah. They made it a pain to pay off early, set up the account properly, and it has been 2 months and I've not gotten my title yet. Never go here for one.

Customer service at this place is awful. Over the last few years, most of the federal credit unions have been told to place DEI above merit, especially if the federal credit union is connected to a government branch. As such, the customer service has gone from four star to ghetto star. It's about as nasty as nasty can be. In the past, most expats, sadly, had to rely on the bank because options were limited. But with the advent of fintech startups, predominately FV Bank and Zenus Bank, these federal credit unions are not longer necessary for non-residents.

Cant wait to withdraw my money from this account. Online banking never seems to be working. Very inconvenient.
