Do not go here for fishing unless you want to net some turtles.. however If you want to find ample amount of turtles do so mid Bike ride or plan on a good little hike to access from nearest parking. Not worth taking fishing gear. Take a camera instead

The pond is about a quarter mile from the parking area. So make sure you use the port-a-potty before you start your trek on the paved path. You may be greeted by people walking the trail, walking there dogs or cyclists on your way to the pond. Once youve got to your destination there is only a paved pathway on the east side of the pond. Fortunately, the pond is now currently full as of the review (01/30/2024) because of all the rain weve had this past month. Previously the southern pool or part of the pond had dried up. I assume the water fowl and turtles are very thankful for the rain. The pond was stocked by TPWD with trout today. That is why I took my 6y.o. son to hopefully get bit by some trout. We werent so lucky but other were. The last time catfish were stocked was in 2021 with just over 500 fingerlings. One of the regular fishermen said they recently caught about a 2lb catfish and released it back. So it seems there are a few left. The banks are a bit difficult to cast from with all the over growth of vegetation (trees and bushes). As a result there is a small tackle store among the branches around the pond. There seems to be a good amount of structure in the form of branches and logs, which is great for the fish. Not so much for anglers and their hooks and lures. The pond is peaceful. However, I think I may have got a few insect bits while there and its winter, so I just can imagine what it would be like when the critters are in full force. Would I go back to fish the pond? Maybe. Definitely, would avoid bring my little guy. It was disappointing for him. Constantly getting snagged and no fish while others got some. Restrooms: The port-a-potty at the trailhead was clean and spacious enough to accommodate a wheelchair bound person.

My grandson wanted to go fishing and he picked Earl Scott Pond. We didn't catch any fish. The weather was cold, kids kept snagging tree branches, and it started to rain close to sundown... But we still had a good time. We were greeted by a Doe and a nice 8 point Buck. They stayed with us for at least 20 minutes. The buck watched over the doe from a distance as she grazed. Then a few ducks swam over to see if we had any snacks...and of course the turtles made an appearance. We were entertained by the beautiful wildlife. They were social and didn't seem bothered by the joggers or bikes going past. Great time, nature trails are beautiful, but poor fishing. Still had an awesome time...I would have given it 5 stars if we had caught a fish.
