Holiday Inn San Antonio-Riverwalk by IHG

Great location but average rooms. With that said it is a very touristy area and this may be true for many hotels here. But here are some thoughts from my recent experience. First room, checked bed for cleanliness and found two large YELLOW stains on the mattress pad. When we asked for a new pad and sheets for a king bed, they sent up a mattress pad and sheet for a twin. The front desk person was very nice and provided a new room; I will provide IHG a personal review of her great customer service for her effort. The second room was better but still not 100% clean and the bed was acceptable but not without some small stains in the bed sheet and pad. Since it was very late we decided this room was ok. The room cleanliness is average at best and in some areas not clean at all. Floors were dirty, they dont look like it because of the color of the tile but walk in your socks for 30 seconds and you will see just how dirty they are. I would recommend walking in shoes or sandals at all times. The doors around the door knobs were so dirty they looked like the doors in a well worn bar bathroom door. Serious gray / brown stains for the thousands of hands that have touched them, really it's kind of gross. Sofa which is cloth shows heavy wear and serious ground in dirt. I do not expect it to be super clean but the stains are so noticeable it's gross. We did not sit on it choosing instead to sit on the leather seats which at least could be wiped. Making all of this frustrating is the fact that when , as a long time Holiday Inn member, I asked for just 1 hour of extra time in the room at check out, I was told the hotel was sold out and they needed the room. From the cleanliness of the two rooms I experienced it's certainly not to give them a deep clean between guests; they just want to turn the rooms given the location. Restaurant was pretty good for breakfast with a decent buffet and some decent looking ala carte items. Valet parking is on par with other hotels in the area at $42 a night.

Had been booked with the Holiday Inn for over a month, I knew we were arriving around midnight and entered the info on my reservation. I called and spoke to a man at the front desk 2-3 days before arrival to confirm they realized I would be arriving close to midnight, he told me yes, it was noted on my reservation, no problem. Around 4pm the day of arrival the hotel charged my credit card. Arrived just before midnight to be told they did not have a reservation for me, I showed them the charge and my paperwork....their response was "we can accommodate you tomorrow but not tonight". They cancelled my reservation after charging my credit card, the manager stated they thought it was a fraudulent charge. Leaving my husband & I in a strange city with zero accommodations at midnight wasn't their problem. I went down the street and the Canopy by Hilton made room for us. I will never make another reservation with the Holiday Inn. When I arrived at the Hilton I called my credit card to report the charge, my credit card said they had just issued the credit a few minutes ago. That is about the only good thing I can say about the hotel, they issued a credit for the charge they made 8 hours prior and probably only because I showed them on my phone I knew they had already charged me for the room. Don't bother going here, they don't care, they don't apologize for mistakes.
