I have been employed for some time now and, while there are certain aspects of the job that I find agreeable, there are also several glaring issues that have made my experience less than satisfactory. 1. Workdays Are Easy: I can't complain about the ease of my daily tasks. The workload is generally manageable, and there's a reasonable work-life balance, which is a definite plus. 2. Management Prioritizes Degrees Over Experience: It's disheartening to see that management values formal degrees more than real-world experience. This has led to the hiring of lower management personnel who lack hands-on field experience. It's often left to the field personnel to train these new hires who are set to become our future bosses. 3. Lack of Job Specialization: While I was initially hired as an inspector, my role has expanded far beyond that. The lack of specialization means I'm often tasked with responsibilities that extend beyond my job description, leading to burnout and frustration. 4. Limited Active Jobs: The construction department faces a chronic problem of having too few active jobs to keep everyone fully billable. With eight personnel on board this often results in underutilization and idle time. 5. Budget Mismanagement: Budgets for jobs are often blown quickly due to overstaffing and overcharging for personnel. This leads to inefficiencies and potentially jeopardizes project outcomes. 6. Outstanding Engineering Department: It's important to highlight that the engineering department is truly exceptional. The expertise, problem-solving capabilities, and dedication of the engineering team are second to none. Their contributions have played a pivotal role in the success of our projects. In conclusion, Baxter & Woodman offers an easygoing work environment, but the mismanagement of resources, an overemphasis on degrees over experience, and a lack of meaningful work for the construction department personnel leave much to be desired. While there are positive aspects to working here, the aforementioned issues have made my overall experience less than fulfilling.
