Dr. Valerie G. Wheelock, MD

Weve been with Barton Creek Pediatrics for a few years now and they have always been incredible; we love all the nurses, all of the nurse practitioners, the front office but Dr. Wheelock.. shes amazing. I highly doubt there is a pedi in Austin better than her. The way she talks to kids, her overall vibe, everything, it is so endearing and so sweet. BOTH of my kids feel completely at ease in her presence. Today for my 7 year olds wellcheck my 1 year old tagged along and instantly wanted to be held by Dr. Wheelock and then she didnt want me! She spent the rest of our visit basically begging me to let her down so she could go ask Dr. Wheelock to pick her up and Dr. Wheelock WANTED to hold her, I could feel that she loved loving on her. Now thats sweet!

Dr Wheelock and her staff are incredible!! I have seen a lot of pediatricians with my 3 children and her practice far exceeds them all. Dr Wheelock is worth the wait if you can book far in advance, but if not, her nurses are also wonderful. I've never felt rushed during our visits, and have always felt respected and supported in my concerns and preferences for my children. It's apparent they truly put the child first and not what the insurance company pushes them to do. I can't recommend Barton Creek Pediatrics enough!

Good luck ever seeing Dr Wheelock. Even if you make an appointment with her months out it will get canceled and they make you see a nurse practitioner. They charge $20 for visits that insurance covers and insurance says you owe the doctor $0 (seems like fraud to me because insurance is reimbursing and you are paying them out of pocket when the EOB states we owe the doctor zero.) They claim insurance doesn't reimburse enough and that's the reason you owe out of pocket, but you shouldn't sign a deal with insurance companies if you don't agree to the amount they reimburse. We're done!

Both of my daughters (4 and 2) see Dr. Wheelock as does my niece and several friends! We were looking for someone who had an open-mind as far as wholistic treatments but with a firm footing in science. Dr. Wheelock has been perfect! She collaborates with us when it comes to treatment planning and always considers the most "natural" approach first. Plus, she is compassionate, great with the kiddos, and a very effective communicator. I'm a pretty tough judge when it comes to providers, and we've been really pleased here. I will say that it's a busy practice and sick visits are almost always with one of the NP's, but we've had positive experiences there too. The office is nice and clean, and there are separate areas in the waiting room for sick visits and well checks - overall a great space!

Take a safari ride on Sickcare USA. Poaching of copays and labs allowed. Your small animals health irrelevant. Obviously didn't enjoy the experience in this African themed Dr office that has no real doctor present...
