Even on the tour there were cockroaches, and the management is the worst. Red flag if you see cockroaches not even a second being in there. They dont care about you!

This is the worst apartment Ive ever lived in. There was a pest problem from Day 1, and it took constant work to keep my place bug-free. The AC couldnt keep the apartment under 78 in the summer, and using the stove or oven would raise the indoor temperature by another 10. The finishes were obviously cheap floorboards that were somehow permanently sticky, doorknobs and faucets that were always loose, etc. They couldnt even be bothered to clean up paint splatters from the floor or faucets when they do repainting between tenants. Maintenance didnt do their job at all my refrigerator was always half-broken (it made very loud noises and even shocked me once), but they never did anything about it. When I had an AC issue, they left a note saying it was just the filter and that theyd replaced it, but the filter wasnt even new. When I left, they tried to charge me hundreds of dollars for repainting even though the only damage was a few holes for nails something I would definitely consider part of the normal wear and tear thats always allowed in a lease. Turns out they were planning on painting all the walls a new color either way and just wanted me to pay for it. The thought that they consider this apartment worth $1000+ per month is incredible - I wouldnt even live here again at half that price.

DO NOT MOVE HERE. This is a great location until CSC Apartments ran this property into the ground. The major issue that ran us out of the Retreat, was ignoring faulty / dangerous appliances we were promised would be changed for 2 years. We eventually found our gas oven leaking and needed the city to help out with the situation. Still CSC did nothing to help us and still ignored the problem even with the gas being turned off for weeks throughout the complex during the pandemic. It forced us to move out as quickly as possible, still with no help and eventually found out CSC lost our down deposit. The management is in constant shift with no one keeping a position for more than half a year, so dealing with them is a nightmare. Maintenance lacks skill and knowledge to fix anything. Anytime we had maintenance help they found a way to break something else or leave an installation without checking if it worked (it didnt). The problems with this property are widespread. We found homeless people sleeping in the laundry room. Drug dealers dealing out of their apartments. Any bike locked here could expect it to be stolen even in a week's time. Bug infections that have forced others to move. Anyone leaving on the ground floor, expect to hear thuds all day from the weak floors. The Retreat could be a great place to live but the management ran it like slum lords and eventually made it a nightmare to stay here. This is only a handful of issues I had over the years here, but I just want to stress this, DO NOT MOVE HERE, it would put you in danger and lacks any kind of support to help you. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about my experience at the Retreat.

Don't be deceived by the pictures online and don't believe what you read! I've learned a very valuable lesson after moving in from out of state. If there is a deal that seems too good to be true, it's probably not legitimate. I have severe indoor and outdoor allergies, so when I read the apartment was a SMOKE-FREE COMMUNITY, I was instantly sold when making my decision. Guess what? I've already seen 4 TENANTS who smoke! They describe this complex as a "boutique-like" community, with "beautiful landscaping", "updated" with "faux-wood", and "gourmet kitchens". They have an extremely talented marketing manager and writer, because NOTHING is what is described. From the minute you arrive to "The Retreat", the exterior paint is chipped and needs an update to modernization. Parking is scarce, and the parking they do have is located under a tree that leaves INTENSE SAP on your car. I paid ~$20 to wash my car, and it couldn't remove a single thing! The wood flooring inside your new home has paint specks all over it, all the sink faucets are incorrectly installed (I know this because we installed new ones since the previous ones were disgusting), and what's worse? THEY HAVE A HUGE PEST ISSUE HERE. When I arrived, there were roaches -- both dead and alive-- ALL over and under the sink!! I've killed more roaches here than MY ENTIRE LIFE. You can smell the third-hand smoke from just walking past each resident's door. The leasing office does NOT deal with pest control, there is no smoke or carbon monoxide detector, they do not change your air filters, you are responsible for changing out your own light bulbs. The only pros? The location and the amount of storage space UPDATE: Since I've last written this review, I've had the unit next to mine's have a plumbing issue that leaked into mine!!!!!!! Attempted to file a claim, and of course, my renters insurance could not help as it's less than $500 of personal property damage. Contacted management and they had no idea this even happened?! In addition to the pests, THERE ARE RODENTS here!! YES, RATS. I've been hearing scurrying in the kitchen, but have ignored it as the walls are paper thin, so assumed the noise was from a neighbor. Woke up, and saw that my fruit basket was demolished?! I walked into the kitchen and SAW A HUGE RAT SCURRYING UNDER THE SINK. I have contacted maintenance and the only thing they can do is clean the feces and lay out traps... When I placed a maintenance request, it took them DAYS until they came to check on the traps. Came to learn, there are 3 maintenance workers, and only ONE who is really a back-up came. If you're expecting help, GOOD LUCK. Shout out to Aubrey, who has been the only maintenance man to actually help. At this point, it's not even about the money, it's about the integrity. I am cutting my lease short, as I have endured SO much with this company. It's impressive I've even stayed here 9 of the 12 months I signed up for!!! Lastly, out of the 9 months of being here, they are currently on manager #4... that says enough.
