    Reviews are hard to trust (no one asked me to post a review) and apartment hunting in Austin is hard, but it's a lot less challenging when you have an apartment locator like Nicole LaCroix and a leasing agent like Kyle at The Shoal. Nicole shared the property with us and the location was unbeatable, but we were apprehensive by the photos onlinethe floor plans didn't seem convincing online and the photos weren't robust. We were interested in one unit, but were bummed when a city-view option wasn't available. We showed up to a tour and Kyle went above and beyond. We mentioned the other unit and a possibility of transferring if we wanted to wait until that unit opened up. He said, actually the previous tenant just moved out. Kyle was so kind and let us tour to place before it was ready, he was very up front and candid about the impending construction at a retail spot right below a different unit we were interested in, and he didn't try to sell us on anything. The property was a true gem, far enough away from downtown, but walkable to SO many amazing things. When we toured the property with a view, we fell in love. If you're thinking about The Shoal, do yourself a favor and go on a tour. The only downsides are a small pool, smaller kitchen and smaller appliances and the interior units that face the pool are darker because there are less windows. But the exterior units are a dream. The layouts are very efficient and 800-square-feet floor plans don't feel tight. The photo is the view from a two bedroom, city-facing unit. The upstairs lounge has a similar view.

    A gem in the city! Living here is convenient to everything, the residents are kind, quiet and respectful, and Chris kills it at his job as he is attentive, professional, and makes you feel very welcomed. The building is always pristine and is overall very well managed. Unlike other places I have lived, I enjoy being a homebody here my unit feels quite spacious for a studio and although it is an interior unit, I get a ton of natural light, which is a must for me. I love calling this place home!

    I have lived at The Shoal for one year and have had a great experience. The management and maintenance team are on top of their stuff and are very kind and easy to work with. The building has great quality amenities and is very close to grocery stores, trails, coffee shops, CapMetro Bike system, downtown, parks, and more. The view from the lounge is beautiful. - The AC has a mind of its own, very hard to control. Got me sick a few times because it froze my bedroom while I was asleep. Others have complained about this as well. - The eurostyle washing machines damage clothing very easily. In order to get around this I started hanging my shirts on regular hangers and putting them on the shower curtain pole to dry instead of using the dry feature in the machine. - The interior units are unbearably dingy and dark. It is torturous to live in those units. I got through it after a year because I didnt want to pay more to switch units, however I am moving out now and the main reason is how dark the interior units are. (The outward facing units have one of the best views in Austin especially if you are on one of the higher levels on the west side of the building, not to mention getting to see a beautiful sunrise come up over the capitol building.) Overall I would highly recommend this building, great management, great amenities, and close to everything. I would however recommend getting an outward facing unit and if you can afford it one of the units with separate washing and drying machines. Now it's back to The Shire for me.
