I went to Vernick Fish for a birthday dinner for 2. I made a reservation via google maps and we were able to get a seat at the bar. Make sure when making a reservation you choose bar or table because once chosen, the restaurant will not likely have the room for you to switch your seats. We got there at 6 we were welcomed and shown to our seats. The ambience was modern and cool af; the glass design of the 4 seasons and the restaurants open concept let in a lot of natural light. By 7 the restaurant began turning up. The servers were attentive and very helpful when it came to ordering. We got all of the recommended items from the manager D. She was super helpful in guiding is to a great experience. The bread was fresh. My favorite dish of the night was the King Salmon Crudo, if you enjoy raw bars, the fish was fresh, the flavors came together well. Their take on a shrimp cocktail is something Ive never had (especially at $7 for a single shrimp) but it hit the spot. The oysters were nice and fresh but some of the water may have been lost during opening, but thats minor. While we were enjoying our starters the chef sent out the Hiramasa Crudo on the house, that was unexpected but very much appreciated. I would definitely try that if you get the chance. The asparagus was fire, cooked to perfection and the flavors were great. Apparently it is made with sorrel (hibiscus) and I appreciate that as a person with Jamaican heritage. We ordered 2 plates of the Jerk Snapper, and as a jamaican Im always wary of ordering anything with jerk in an American restaurant. That said it was not spicy as I expected; if you are into savory food, ask for hot sauce because the coconut collards made the dish sweater than I would like so Id give that a 4/5, but it was fried to perfection, flakey and soft. My old fashion was perfect, and to top it off D heard it was my birthday and sent out desert. Id recommend Vernick but be prepared to spend some bread. We dropped $350 for 2 people. Id return to Vernick fish, to try some of their other dishes. Its a good spot for a birthday or corporate outing. If you found my review helpful give this a thumbs up, and follow me for more restaurant reviews as I eat my way through Philly and America. -Harp
