My wife and I have lived in our home in center city Philadelphia since her grandmother died and we inherited the house 16 years ago. After we had children we began to exceed the spatial capacity of the building. Even though we absolutely loved the neighborhood and the home had sentimental value, we begrudgingly began thinking of moving and relocating somewhere else. Property values had shot through the roof in the past ten years and anything in our neighborhood that was big enough to meet our needs was priced over a million dollars. We were in a pickle. At this point we were even considering moving out of the city all together and perhaps building a new home somewhere else. That was when a friend of ours had turned us on to an architect/builder/developer that they had used for renovations on their home. We had Alex over for a consultation to discuss building a new home for us. When he came in, he loved our house. He said that we would be crazy to move. We started discussing the possibility of adding an addition on to the existing structure. We then hired him to investigate our options. Alex came back to us with a design proposal. To be totally honest, it was beyond anything that we could of ever dreamed of. It involved adding an extra room on the back of the house that doubled the size of the kitchen. It opened up outside into a Japanese garden with built-in planters and a koi pond. There was a stair that went up to a roof terrace on the top of the new addition. He also proposed to add a whole third floor on top of the existing house that included a master bedroom and bathroom, and a media room/library for my film and book collection. We were crazy about the design, but we never thought we would be able to afford it. He came to us with the estimate and it was more than we thought we could swing. We suggested maybe cutting back on the design. He then went back and composed a creative way to execute the full design for a reasonable budget. We were sold but still needed to get financing. Alex then put us in touch with his wife who is a banker at Beneficial Bank. Amazingly, she had our loan processed and the money available to us in under a month. We then went ahead and built the project. Alex brought his own Detail Exchange crew in and they did all the work themselves. We lived there while the construction was happening and they were all courteous and respectful of us and our space. Also, to our surprise, the project was finished 2 weeks ahead of schedule. And, most importantly, the work is beautiful! We could not be happier.

Detail Exchange's work is of the best quality. I thought I had a pretty good idea of what it was going to look like. But the finished product is even better then what i ever could have imagined. I thank them for all the hard work, dedication, and creativity they put into my project.

Alex is great at assessing the situation and figuring out the best way to get the correct look. He came to our house and really dove into our minds to figure out exactly the way we we wanted it to look and i couldn't have even asked for a better outcome. We are very happy!
