After having to submit a total of 3 petitions due to them not receiving it in order to opt out of payment for a school I have never been to, they rejected my petition. I would have been an Out-of-State resident and was told I will have another $100 added on the 6th of October if it was not paid by then. The original charge was $423 and I had to call in order to EVEN get an update on my petition I had to once again submit via email and called today about an update (2nd of October). Extremely unhelpful and not understanding of peoples financial inability to cover a charge for a school they have never been to. I would go up there if I could but, unfortunately I am halfway across the country having to deal with such incompetence. I have a brother who is undergoing numerous amounts of surgery on top of me having no capability to pay this. Word of advice if you go to PSU, I would suggest getting an off campus apartment. They do not care about what you need or can do. So, my recommendation is to not waste your time and money. Best of luck. I wanted to also give thanks to Ashley Wendler for not only wasting my time but others with the experience I have had, I do not doubt this isnt a common occurrence.

Ooooh boy, do I have an opinion on housing. Living in this place literally made me sick. When I moved in, my apartment was dirty, as if it hadn't been cleaned in years (literal chunks of dust were falling out of the kitchen vent). In summer, it reached 95 degrees in my apartment. The university refuses to allow window A/C units and there is no central A/C. They will open the hallway windows (one of which was broken for the better half of winter, letting all the cold air seep in) and let all the bugs in. When I broke my wrist, I tried to buy a portable dishwasher. PSU Housing opened my mail (a FEDERAL CRIME) and then told me I couldn't have it because it would draw too much power from the building. At one point, they were updating the Internet and tried to say that they could enter units any time during a 2 week window (luckily, enough tenants protested that, so it didn't happen). I got in trouble for owning a lighter. Meanwhile, the washing machine will set itself on fire at least twice a month. People will have fake, out-of-control service dogs and the university just lets that slide. There was an incident I witnessed that involved violence, and campus safety took an HOUR to show up, and PSU Housing made it very clear to me that they would protect the identity of violent individuals. I lived near the trash chute and had to get used to the constant smell of garbage from people overfilling it. They would also randomly close the trash chutes for no apparent reason, so this would happen often. There are almost no benefits to living here over living in another downtown apartment. In fact, I'd imagine that you'd get a better deal, have a safer environment, and generally be happier. The student staff is lovely. It's the university that's the problem.
