Visited the office for a 12:15 PM consultation on 3/19/2024. Things started out normal and friendly enough until I didn't want to leave my purse (containing my wallet) in a separate room while getting x-rays done (technically not another room but a separate space, out of eyeshot, from where I would be for too long for my personal comfort). The technician was VISIBLY irritated with me but she finally relented and "let me" put my purse on the floor inside of the x-ray room. Gee, thanks for letting me inconvenience you. Anyone who's a fan of Seinfeld knows better than to leave their wallet unattended at the doctor's office. Ever since seeing that episode, I keep my purse/wallet on my person at all times LMAO. After getting my x-rays done it was time for pictures. Nothing odd about that, pretty standard practice. After taking pictures of my mouth/teeth from every angle imaginable, the technician directed me to stand up so she could a full body picture. HUH? No one told me I'd be getting those kind of pictures taken. I was a bit taken aback and asked her to clarify what kind of pictures she meant. She confirmed what I was afraid of. Look, I wasn't prepared for alla that; literally no one told me that was going to be part of the consultation process (not even the person who called me to confirm the appointment the day before the visit). Is it vain of me to not want to take unexpected pictures (I would have at least shown up to the appointment looking halfway human had I known)? Of course it is. But, it's my right. I hadn't signed away the rights to my images so I politely refused. Or at least I thought I'd politely refused. After going back and forth for a few rounds, the tech, STILL VISIBLY IRRITATED BY MY MERE EXISTENCE, relented and said she'd be right back. Cool. I sat in the examination chair and waited for the orthodontist. In came Ram, followed by Ms. Irritated. When he introduced himself as the office manager, I immediately said to myself in my head, "Did this chick really just narc on me because I refused to take a full-length photo???????????? LMFAO! WOW! Is it really that serious???" I guess it was. Ram was seemingly nice enough but his presence in that room was meant only to pressure/coerce/dare I say intimidate me, into taking a full-length photo. He tried to explain that the full-length photo was "part of the consultation process" and "needed". His attempts to convince me were futile because I knew the doctor didn't NEED to see a full-length photo of me TODAY in order to conduct a proper consultation. And I told him as much. However, I was more than happy to gather my belongings and leave if that was "the hill" he wanted "to die on", as I told him in that moment. I was not going to be bullied to take a picture under duress, IDGAGGDWTFHS *shrug* He wound up relenting and left me alone. The orthodontist came in right after and conducted the consultation. WEIRD. WEIRD. WEIRD. Ultimately, I have decided not to work with this practice on my braces journey because of the weird intimidation tactics over a full-length body shot and the lack of a bedside manner of the technician. The whole experience gave me BIG scammer vibes, cult vibes and bully vibes. Just weird vibes all around. I'll pass. I suggest that you let prospective patients know up front that not only will x-rays and pictures of their mouths be taken BUT ALSO FULL-LENGTH BODY SHOTS.
