This office did noneccesere procedure and over charged me. I refuse pay , She canceled my appointment and charged me cancelation appointment. What terrible practice!

I went to these dentists (3) from a flyer which advertised free initial x-rays and exam. I had the exam on June 5, 2020 and the dentist recommended crowning 6 teeth for $11,150 because the fillings were large, old, and the margins were worn. Those fillings were 30-40 years old, so it seemed an appropriate recommendation. I thought it was something I might have done. Since I had no insurance, they had a discount plan for $299 /year which would discount the $11K to $9,290. The plan discounted most of their services, and included 2 teeth cleanings and an emergency visit. This sounded reasonable so I purchased this plan. I set up a teeth cleaning for two weeks later. The hygienist and dentist recommended a deep cleaning of all four quadrants discounted to $993, because I had some bone loss. I said I would consider it. I discussed these recommendations with my sister, a retired dentist. Based on that discussion, I decided that since I had no problem with those filled teeth, I would not proceed with the crowns. Im 72 and considering the condition of the rest of my body some bone loss in my jaw would be a cause for alarm, and I did have a deep clean in one quadrant three years ago. A deep clean in all quadrants struck me as excessive, so I decided not to have that done. The office called in August to set up and appointment and I said I would like a teeth cleaning in December. An appointment was set for December 4, 2020. A week before that appointment I got a call from the office to confirm my appointment. I confirmed that I wanted only a teeth cleaning. I was told that they would not do the teeth cleaning I wanted (and was entitled to under the plan I paid for) because I had been diagnosed as needing a deep clean for $993. I told them that I would decide what services I wanted, not them. I told them this was preposterous and if they would not do the service I had paid for, that I wanted them to return the money I paid for their plan. They said they would not do that. This is tantamount to paying for an engine tune-up from a mechanic you dont really know and them saying they wont do the tune-up because you need a complete engine overhaul (even though there is no evidence that there is any problem with the engine) and they wont give you your money back. Smiles for Life seems to be all about the money. They seem to be about squeezing as much as they can from their clients. They are probably good competent dentists, but their business policies are all out of whack and only about the money.
