Of all the places I've rented Aspen Lakes has the best maintenance team. In the rare occasion that I need something looked at or fixed they are all on the ball. Prompt and professional. That is a direct reflection on management. Good managers make for good employees. Bravo!

I visited Aspen Lakes recently because they offered a very nice facility, conveniently located and reasonably priced units. Customer service was less than desirable. First, after I called in asking for a tour of the available 2 bedroom, with garage at the building I would be renting, they were very disorganized and told me they could not tell me which units had a garage, so I asked if they could have it ready by the time I arrived. When I arrived about an hour later on Friday evening around 4:00, I was told there were a couple of units which met my requirements. I finally settled on a 2 bedroom cottage with the garage at the same bldg. Because it was close to 5:00 by the time I decided on the cottage, the leasing mgr told me to call back Sat or Monday for someone to help me with completing the online account set up. When I called on Saturday, I was instructed to call back on Monday because there were scheduled appointments back to back, so they did not have time to help me with setting up the account. When I went by on Monday, I was allowed to apply for the unit (cottage with garage at my bldg) I wanted and was assisted with setting up the account. I then informed the manager that I visited the site on Saturday to take photos of where Id be staying. I also informed her that a car was parked at the garage I had indicated I would rent. She tried to indicate it was maintenance but I told her it wasnt maintenance because the car was similar to a Camaro. She proceeded with my application and the funds for application were deducted from my account. I did not hear from the manager for the next 3 days. I went by on the 4th day and was told by the manager that the garage was rented over the weekend, the weekend that no one could help with setting up my payment account. I then asked for the return of my application fee and was told by management that the fee would not be returned. After about 2 days, I informed management that I would file a report with the BBBA. I was then told that my fees could be returned. Next, I asked to speak with the DM but was informed that the buck stops at the local manager. I finally spoke with the DM and was given another option to lease a unit on 3rd floor with a garage in that bldg. This was the unit I had initially refused because upon entering, both I and the manager smelled a foul odor as if a sewage line had burst. I was told if I wanted that floor plan, it would not be that unit. The DM offered the 3rd floor unit but said it no longer smelled of sewage. I agreed to keep my application in the system and not get a refund. Finally, the application came back as denied due to unverifiable income. I am self employed so my business deposits are my verified income. I let it go and moved on to a unit that wanted my money. Ive often told my girls, dont let someone treat you bad AND you give them your money; we vote with our dollars. I applied for rent at another faculty and was approved for move in within 3 days of my applying. And, deposits in my business account were accepted as verifiable income. I want the public to know about my experience and I just wonder if any of this had anything to do with biases against business owners. For what its worth, Im African American but did not consider this to be racially motivated. Bad management and bad customer service at Aspen Lakes, corner of 69 and Southport!

Please do not be duped by the good comments. Do not move here thinking you will get the same experience as the rest of the reviews. Office is terrible when you have real problems. Maintenance is good, the grounds are kept. If you have problems with your neighbors they just tell you to call the non emergency police line. I wont be resigning a lease. Take your hard earned money else where. Office really went down hill after the male manager left.

I lived at Aspen Lakes for two years before moving. My first year here was amazing and I couldnt have asked for a better experience and I hate that I have to leave a bad review. After the former manager, Jason, left aspen lakes really went downhill. Maintenance is great and the grounds are well kept but management is poor. My experiences with management after Jason were always incredibly negative. They do not care about tenant safety and DO NOT change security codes or locks between tenants. When I expressed concerns about this Jason was super sweet and accommodating but left shortly after. When I expressed this concern to the new management (Tylea) they said things would be fixed. They werent fixed, and I started getting treated poorly by management (Tylea). I hope they do improve.
