I have seen optometrists or ophthalmologists at least once a year for the past 34 years. I have NEVER had an eye doctor that is worse than Dr Russell. I visited Dr Russell for the first time last year for my annual exam. I work at a computer and had been experiencing symptoms of eye strain. He recommended using computer workstation progressive lenses while working. After filling my subscription and allowing my eyes time to adjust, I notified the office that I was still experiencing eye strain and often needed to switch back to my previous distance-only glasses to read at my work computer. The new subscription had been filled by another local VSP premium provider with a wider selection of frames. I was told that the problems I was having were due to filling my prescription through an outside provider and Dr Russell declined to provide a follow-up. Stupidly, I believed last year's experience really was my fault and revisited Dr Russell this year. I placed an order for new lenses and was also fitted for new contacts. My glasses have not been completed, but it was clear that my trial contacts were not a good fit. The contacts are distance only, but my ability to read my cell phone and other nearby objects is substantially worse than my uncorrected vision or my distance-only glasses that had been prescribed by my previous doctor (sadly that doctor doesn't accept my current insurance). Even though substantial changes had been made to my contacts prescription (dropping astigmatism correction in one eye and brand change) he again refused a follow-up and directed staff to tell me to get readers which he did not provide a prescription for. He might be ok if he's just copying the same prescription from a previous doctor, but if you have changing vision STAY AWAY. Update: I received a prescription from another doctor. The prescription included the astigmatism correction that I've had in the past and a slightly different power in the eye that was most problematic with Dr Russel's prescription. I can see clearly without the need to add readers.

Everyone at the south Tampa location was kind, professional and efficient. Fady was able to save me money and David was the most knowledgeable tech I've ever encountered in his field.
