Dr. Juan Carlos Varela is a board-certified and fellowship-trained physician specializing in hematology and oncology with the Bone Marrow Transplant and Cellular Therapy program at the Orlando Health Cancer Institute. With extensive expertise in blood and bone marrow transplant, acute leukemia treatment, cancer immunotherapy, and cellular therapy, Dr. Varela takes a personalized approach to patient care, tailoring treatments to each individual's unique goals and needs. He obtained his medical degree and doctorate from the Medical University of South Carolina and completed his residency and fellowship at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. Dr. Varela is certified in hematology and internal medicine and is a member of the American Society for Transplantation and Cellular Therapy and the American Society of Hematology.

Beyond his clinical practice, Dr. Varela is also a physician scientist and has led several clinical trials exploring novel immunotherapeutic approaches in hematologic malignancies and bone marrow transplants. His research has been published extensively in peer-reviewed publications, focusing on topics such as hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, acute myelogenous leukemia, and adoptive T cell immunotherapy. When he's not working, Dr. Varela enjoys music, sports, and spending quality time with his family. He is fluent in both English and Spanish.
