In 1986, Rick and Jean Giles opened the first Dollar Tree store in Chesapeake, VA. Their idea was to offer customers a wide variety of merchandise for just $1.00 or less. Today this idea has come to life with over 4500 stores nationwide and growing. The company is headquartered in Goodlettsville, TN.
Dollar Tree offers kitchen utensils, small appliances, razors, small electronics, and other household items and merchandise from more national brands. Nonetheless, this is still a primarily "dollar store" concept with a limited selection of top-name brands.
The company is currently traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol DLTR.
Dollar Tree does not accept returns on items sold for one dollar or less. In addition, many items in the store are sold only as one unit per customer.
