This is supposedly a permanent supportive housing location, but it is run like a trap house. With all of the millions of dollars in funding that were received to purchase Vantaggio Suites and develop this PSH location, you'd think those in charge would have done a hell of a lot better than this! There are pieces of equipment in these rooms that echo 1925 or further back, it is not air-conditioned yet downstairs, where the "important people" are (staff and manager), there is full speed air flow. There is only a community based kitchen and only a fridge and microwave in the units.
There are more circumspect ongoings here than I have toes AND fingers to count! The employees are mostly ex-convicts that Five Keys Schools and Programs have just thrown into positions here without any common sense, let alone the ability to properly maintain this residential building. Everyone living here is deemed disabled, and with the caliber of the people who work here, not much is done to actually 'support' anyone! It is no wonder why many people who face homelessness and displacement elect to remain unhoused because upon entering such a lousy establishment as this, there is VERY little difference between being out in the corner of Mission and 16th Street and being in a unit here. These people are filthy and do not uphold and standards of decency. If you enjoy shooting up, being messy and nosy, keeping your apartment as ghetto and rancid as someone living on the streets with roaches all around, keeping up with the "elite" Five Keys formerly imprisoned staff who relish all things evil and you don't want anything better in life, you'll love it here. They circulate staff from Five Keys shelters to sit downstairs in the lobby and just look at residents coming and going. They do nothing else as far as I can see. I stand corrected: They scream and holler at old people and try to get glimpses of what is in each apartment that they can steal during the "pest control" visits. They promote the use of and sales of drugs as well. Instead of actually functioning in a professional capacity, the staff and management of this location zero in on gossip, prying into what residents do in their personal time, playing with tarot cards and recruiting whomever will fall for their bait of (other) unspoken "business." Beware if you are not in any fashion a crackhead, meth head or involved in various types of unscrupulous interaction as you will become their next target. The staff are so fearful of those not involved in their foolery that they stoop to having people followed, sending in certain residents to act as spies in areas of the building etc. There are SOME residents here who are about their living and don't appear to get caught up in the chaos and ratchetness that are so extremely prevalent at The Gotham. For the most part, however, the majority of the staff and residents are all the same. After being in shelters in San Francisco, I can honestly say that this is not even a notch up.
