In September of 2021, we had to travel from our home in Virginia to San Diego in order to settle the affairs of a family member who suddenly had developed severe dementia and then died within only a few weeks. He had no advance directives of any kind except for naming his sister as beneficiary of his bank accounts. He had 2 adult children from whom he had been estranged for decades. The legal ramifications were daunting. We were referred to Jonathan Hoff at Frisella Neilson by an attorney friend in Virginia. Mr. Hoff helped us navigate the complex issues of settling the affairs of the family member, both prior and subsequent to the family member's demise, including applying for legal conservatorship and locating the estranged children, who were also helpful in the settling of affairs.
