I have heard good things about their 100% satisfaction guarantee policy but never tried to return an used item in the past until today. So apparently there are many exceptions to this guarantee, "normal wear and tear" being one. I tried to return a pair of trail running shoes that were worn rarely but was wearing out more quickly than my previous pair from a different brand but was refused; doesn't matter I was not "100% satisfied". So in essence, it's not possible to return anything not new. We pay full price to buy from REI believing they have a guarantee for satisfaction, but not so. Then there is no reason to shop there anymore. Very easy to find the same products at discounts on-line. Bye REI.

It's a shame!!! I have shopped here for many years and never left review and unfortunately I have to leave one like this. I was there Saturday morning and I was shopping for a shell jacket. I was trying on different ones and just standing there making sure they fit over a fleece ( was standing next to the shell jackets that are locked on the rack). A young girl (Caucasian, blonde/brown hair, employee) walks over and stands within two feet of me (very close), and just stares at me (super weird). Doesn't say anything at first, she so close, I say "hi", can I help you? . She says I was told to come stand next to you. I was like ok? Then she keeps staring at me even though a middle aged white man is standing on the other side trying on shells. I finally have to tell her she was making me feel really uncomfortable. She immediately left and I was very upset. I have never felt so embarrassed or ashamed. I had to actually for the first time tell someone I felt uncomfortable. People standing near by started to stare at me like I was a thief. I was very taken back and for the first time in a very long time felt bad for being a dark skinned mexican.
