My original plan was to deliver my baby at home so when my doctor told me i needed to be in the hospital for health reasons, i was devastated. I had a hospital birth (different hospital) with my first child and it was not a good experience. I was more than worried for this delivery. BUT LET ME TELL YOU, i was wrong. As soon as i got to my labor and delivery room, i felt welcome. My L&D nurse, Nichole, was super friendly and made sure i knew all my options for how i wanted this birth. She didn't push me to choose one thing or another. She constantly asked me how i was doing and if i needed anything. Nichole was quick to fill my water or answer the nurse call button. I am so lucky that Nichole was by my side when my baby came into the world. Dr. Zeng, the resident OBGYN, was also fantastic. She was very good at explaining what was going to happen. She made it easy for me to focus on her when i was pushing. I had several different nurses in postpartum. Ronii stood out to me because she talked to me like I was her friend. She made me feel cared for and comfortable. In postpartum, housekeeping came by. The lovely lady's name was Marsha. She engaged in conversation, made me laugh and wouldn't stop saying how beautiful my baby was. Unfortunately, my daughter had to spend some time in the NICU. During her stay, I met several compassionate, patient, and kindhearted people. Taylor, Kim, Terry, Irene, and Cassidie were exceptional nurses who allowed me to parent my daughter while still hooked up to all the monitors. I was able to change her diaper, feed her, hold her and swaddle her. They responded to my nurse calls and answered all the questions i had. Terry was excellent at calming my nerves when something didn't go as planned. Dr. Arora was my daughter's NICU doctor. Her number one concern was making sure my daughter was safe and healthy. Even though some hard decisions had to be made, it was all in my daughters best interest. I am grateful for the lactation consultant in the NICU, Voni, who took her time with me to make sure i was comfortable with breastfeeding and pumping. I saw her several times during our stay. Lastly, my daughter was seen by Christina, the speech therapist. She explained tongue and lip ties, helped with all of my questions, and was swift to give me resources for when we returned home. My idea of what a hospital birth was going to be like has changed. The doctors, nurses, and staff made mine and my daughter's stay pleasant. It was easier to focus on welcoming my daughter into the world instead of worrying about how I was being treated. I am so pleased with this experience.

Called to ask what the wait time was for the emergency room. Woman rudely informed me that they will not give that out over the phone. I asked her if she was being serious. She had hung up on me already. I don’t think that anyone is under the impression that healthcare providers like this actually care about their patients. But that was astounding. You should all be ashamed of yourselves.

Following are comments made from a family member which could be explained as absolutely the worst hospital experience in his life! In two words his experience could be explained as horrific and negligent. From the beginning he was neglected, and in our opinion, left to die. Neglected, he was on the verge of a diabetic coma (blood sugar in the 30’s), left on toilet for 30 minutes despite calling and ringing nurses button, wasn’t eating, losing weight, wasn’t given Glucerna for two weeks after he asked for it. The food was not meant for human consumption. His room was unbearably hot. This is not what you would expect in a hospital setting. Thank God a nice nurse brought a portable fan in for him. With four walls, no windows, and his door completely shut, anxiety set in. Blame, however, shouldn’t be placed on overworked and overwhelmed nurses. They are doing the best they can in the circumstances. To make matters worse, his doctors just stopped coming in to check in on him for four days! There’s a different person (case worker, nurse, etc.) every day handling a case, so one person doesn’t know what the other person is doing. And that leaves communication. Simply put, it’s non existent at this hospital. Discharge was another mess which took four days. Even though he couldn’t walk on his own, and therapists told him he needed therapy 3 days a week, there were no orders for physical therapy, etc. at discharge. As I look at other similar complaints, I don’t know how this hospital can get away with such abuse. Maybe this a case for the AZ Dept. of Health Services or Medicare.
